Day four report

Justin Rose could not end the year with the world number one ranking as Tony Finau birdied the final hole of the Hero World Challenge to push him into third place at Tiger Woods' event in the Bahamas.

Though Jon Rahm cruised to victory by four shots, there was still some final-hole drama as par or worse for Finau would have seen Rose move back above Brooks Koepka after weeks of flip-flopping for top spot with the American.

Instead, Finau birdied the 18th to take sole possession of second place in the tournament, leaving Rose second in the world.

It was a frustrating end to a day when Rose was in strong form.

Though he suffered an early setback when he bogied the fourth hole, Rose birded the next three to make the turn at two under.

He picked up another five shots on the back nine, highlighted by an eagle on the par-five 15th.

Rahm, Finau and Henrik Stenson had begun the day tied at the top of the leaderboard, but only Rose - who started the day down in eighth - could live with Rahm's pace on Sunday.

He signed for a blemish-free 65 while a double-bogey on the 14th ended Finau's hopes as he carded a 69 that also included two bogeys and seven birdies. Stenson slipped to fourth place with a round of 71.

Day three report

Tony Finau joined Henrik Stenson and Jon Rahm in a share of the lead through 54 holes of the Hero World Challenge.

The American responded to a bogey at the tough second hole to rattle off six birdies before saving par at the last in a round of 67.

At 13-under, he's alongside Stenson and Rahm after the Ryder Cup team-mates posted matching 69s on a breezy day at Albany.

Stenson went out in 32 thanks to four birdies to pull away from the pack, but bogeys at the 13th and 16th holes saw him fall back into a share of the lead as he seeks his first win in over a year.

Rahm, who finished third in Dubai a fortnight ago, bogeyed the par-three second and 12th holes to go with five birdies, but was unable to add a sixth which would have seen him take the solo lead despite an excellent drive down the final hole.

Gary Woodland sits alone in fourth on 11-under having matched Finau's 67, with Rickie Fowler putting together back-to-back rounds of the same number to move into fifth and keep alive hopes of a successful title defence.

Last year, Fowler carded a closing 61 to turn around a seven-shot deficit and that suggests anyone down to Alex Noren on eight-under could still be in the conversation.

Noren carded a hole-in-one at the par-three 17th having made a seven at the previous hole, ending a rollercoaster round on eight-under and tied for eighth alongside Justin Rose and Patrick Reed.

Dustin Johnson and Xander Schauffele split that trio and Fowler, sitting in a tie for sixth, but tournament host Tiger Woods is playing for pride only and props up the leaderboard on two-under.

Day two report

Jon Rahm and Henrik Stenson take a one-shot lead into the third round of the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas.

After a disappointing opening round of 72, Spaniard Rahm hit nine birdies in the best round of the day to move to 10 under par.

Sweden's Stenson followed up an opening round of 68 with a 66 that included seven birdies and a bogey.

Overnight leaders Patrick Reed and Patrick Cantlay had mixed fortunes on the second day.

Cantlay is a shot behind the European pair after signing for a 70 while Reed dropped down the leaderboard following a round of 77 that included three bogeys and a double bogey.

Dustin Johnson moved to within a shot of the leaders with a round of 67 while Tony Finau carded a 64 to complete the top five.

Day one report

A birdie on the 18th hole saw Patrick Reed finish the first day of the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas top of the leaderboard alongside fellow American Patrick Cantlay.

Reed had started strong with birdies on the first two holes but a bogey on the par-three eighth set him back before he carded four birdies on the back nine to sign for a 65.

Cantlay had used a late charge to set the clubhouse lead, with birdies on five of the last six holes in a blemish-free round.

That left the pair three shots clear of Henrik Stenson and Dustin Johnson who were in a tie for third.

Host Tiger Woods struggled as he recorded a first round of 73.

Birdies on the sixth and seventh holes cancelled out bogeys on the second and fifth, but it all went wrong on the par-three 12th as he missed the fairway and then got caught in a water hazard on his way to a triple-bogey.
