Carlos Ortiz held off Dustin Johnson and Hideki Matsuyama to take victory at the Houston Open and clinch his first PGA Tour title.
The Mexican, ranked 149th in the world and not in the field for this week's Masters, finished two shots clear of Johnson and Matsuyama on 13-under par.
His closest challengers showed that they are likely to contend for the Green Jacket at Augusta, as Matsuyama equalled the course record of 63 on the final day and Johnson put him under constant pressure.
A birdie at 16 pulled Ortiz a stroke clear of the world number one and that proved to be the decisive moment, with the 29-year-old making sure with a birdie at the last.
Talor Gooch finished fourth, a shot ahead of Brooks Koepka, who finished with successive rounds of 65, and Sepp Straka.
"It feels awesome. It's been a while since I have won - it feels good," said Oritz.
"I made some huge putts on the front nine, that kickstarted my round, and after that I played really good, I didn't miss many shots, and it was awesome finishing with the birdie on 18."
