Rory McIlroy has parted company with long-time caddie JP Fitzgerald

Rory McIlroy will answer questions about his caddie on Wednesday, according to his manager.

Reports on Monday said the four-time major winner had split with long-standing sidekick JP Fitzgerald.

There was silence from the McIlroy camp on Monday, though, apart from manager Sean O'Flaherty telling the Golf Channel: "Nothing to share. Rory will address all questions on Wednesday in Akron."

McIlroy and Fitzgerald have worked together for nine years, taking in his four major wins.

At this month's Open, McIlroy credited Fitzgerald for getting him going amid a poor run of play.

He said Fitzgerald told him: "You're Rory McIlroy. What the **** are you doing?"

McIlroy will play in the World Golf Championship in Akron on Thursday.
