Day four report

Patton Kizzire survived a late charge by Rickie Fowler to clinch his breakthrough win on the PGA Tour with a one-shot victory at the OHL Classic at Mayakoba.

On a gruelling 36-hole final day at the weather-affected tournament, Kizzire led by four with six holes remaining only for three birdies from his opponent to ramp up the pressure heading down the last.

However, when the Alabama-born 31-year-old managed to get his second to within 30 feet of the flag after an awkward stance on the edge of a bunker it was Fowler who cracked, leaving his approach even further away to hand his rival a straightforward two-putt for the win.

Kizzire, who had previously had two runners-up finishes in 64 starts, posted a 67 for a 19-under total.

"I was glad to get it done, Rickie made me work hard," he said in his post-round interview.

Kizzire reached the turn in the final round with a three-shot lead and extended that when his wedge approach to the 11th left his ball hanging over the edge of the cup without dropping in for eagle.

However, Fowler whittled the lead down to one going down the last with three birdies in five holes but could have done better had he taken advantage of some wayward driving by his rival over the closing holes.

South Korea's Si Woo Kim finished third after a closing 65, which included a run of five successive birdies in his front nine, lifted him to 15 under.

That was one ahead of Charles Howell III, who posted back-to-back 66s on the final day, and Martin Piller, who also shot a 65.

Kizzire, who shared the 36-hole lead with Fowler and Patrick Rodgers, had birdied the 17th hole of his third round earlier in the day for a two-shot swing over Fowler – Rodgers blowing his chances with a 72 - to give him a one-stroke lead on 15 under after signing for a 66.

Day three report - end of round two

Rickie Fowler held a three-way share of the lead following the completion of the rain-delayed second round at the OHL Classic at Mayakoba.

Fowler, who was one shot off the top of the leaderboard when play was suspended on Friday due to darkness following an earlier storm interruption, resumed on the 16th hole in Playa del Carmen and carded three consecutive pars.

The world number 10's four-under 67 leaves him 10-under overall, level with fellow Americans Patrick Rodgers and Patton Kizzire.

Kizzire, who held the first-round lead, was the only player to complete the 18 holes on Friday, while Rodgers, who produced four straight birdies on the front nine, managed a birdie and two pars from his three outstanding holes.

Play did not resume until 1pm local time on Saturday due to more bad weather.

Americans Brian Gay, Brandon Harkins and John Oda are all one shot off the pace in joint fourth, while Scotland's Russell Knox heads into the third round tied for 10th, four shots behind the leaders.

Fowler headed into the delayed third round as the 11/8 favourite for the title at Sky Bet with Rodgers and Kizzire both 7/1 chances ahead of Gay on 14/1.

Day two report

Rickie Fowler sat one shot off the lead when play was suspended due to darkness during the second round of the OHL Classic at Mayakoba.

Earlier in the day, play was held up by a storm with only Patton Kizzire, who held the first-round lead, from the top three completing 18 holes. He fired a one-under 70 to move to 10 under for the week.

Four straight birdies on the front nine put Patrick Rodgers at the top of the leaderboard on 11 under after 15 holes on day two, with Fowler also left with three to play.

Fowler had moved in front on his own before his first bogey of the tournament at the 14th, where he found a hazard off the tee before scrambling his way to a five to drop just one shot.

He's now 11/8 favourite with Sky Bet, who make Rodgers 6/1 and Kizzire 8/1.

Scotland's Russell Knox fired a second consecutive round of 68 to sit at six under.

The second round is expected to resume on Saturday morning at 0730 local time (1230 GMT).

Day one report

Patton Kizzire fired an opening nine-under round of 62 to take a two-shot lead after day one of the OHL Classic at Mayakoba and is into 6/1 with Sky Bet.

Six straight birdies across the middle of the course put him top of the leader board, with a particularly impressive shot on the par-four ninth hole which saw the ball bounce off the flag pole.

Only a bogey on the last prevented the American from equalling the course record at El Camaleon Golf Club as he led the way from countryman Vaughn Taylor, who finished seven under at 64.

Fellow American Rickie Fowler, who last played in the Presidents Cup on October 1, showed no dip in form to complete the round six under and in third place overall, alongside Brandon Hawkins.

Fowler, making his debut in the event, is 11/4 favourite from 9/1 pre-tournament.

Two-time US Open winner Retief Goosen, 48, rolled back the years with a 66 to sit at five under, while defending champion Pat Perez was one of a 10-strong group five shots off the lead.

Scot Russell Know also had a good run of birdies on the front nine but two later bogeys put him at three under on 68, a shot ahead of Northern Ireland's Graeme McDowell.

One stand-out moment came from American Kevin Mitchell, who started his round on the par-3 10th with a hole in one. A birdie and two bogeys followed on the back nine to leave him five under at 64 going into round two.
