after his Australian rival had produced a storming back nine, coming home in 29 with the help of two eagles and three birdies, to claim the clubhouse lead.

Veteran South African Ernie Els shot a 65 to finish in a tie for third on 12 under with New Zealand's Ben Campbell.

"I've been playing really well," Bhullar said on the European Tour website. "It was just a matter of time and I'm glad it happened on this stage and really happy to be back on the European Tour."

India's Gaganjeet Bhullar earned a golden opportunity to claim his first European Tour title after ending the third round of the Fiji International with a one-shot lead.

Playing his 106th European Tour event, Bhullar signed for a second successive 69 to get to eight under par and lead the way from Australians Andrew Dodt, Jarryd Felton, Jake McLeod and Terry Pilkadaris.

Overnight leader Ben Campbell entered Saturday with a four-shot advantage but the New Zealander dropped three shots in his last three holes to post a five-over 77, leaving him at six under.

Four-time major winner Ernie Els stood a shot further back as he targets European Tour title number 29 and his first since 2013.

Bhullar will be the man to catch at Natadola Bay Golf Club on Sunday after he made four birdies and just a single bogey in round three.

After three top-10 finishes in his last four appearances worldwide, the 30-year-old is confident he can finish the job.

"I think all the good rounds, good scores which I've been producing over the period of two months is going to definitely help me subconsciously," he said, quoted on the European Tour website.

"Golf is a crazy game, anything could happen."

Ben Campbell holds a four-shot lead at the Fiji International after posting a stunning 66 in the second round.

The New Zealander was already in a tie for the lead at Natadola Bay after an opening 67 and he went on to post the joint-lowest round of the week so far.

Campbell, making just his ninth European Tour start, could have been further clear had he not bogeyed the par-four 18th to drop back to 11 under.

Andrew Dodt is Campbell's closest challenger heading into the weekend after a round of 70 left him on seven under.

Fellow Australians Jarryd Felton and Terry Pilkadaris are a shot further adrift with seven players, including Nick Cullen, tied at five under.

Pilkadaris, Ben Coley's headline tip at 125/1, is in to 18/1 with Sky Bet - who make Campbell their 6/4 favourite.

Ernie Els, a 28-time winner on the European Tour, secured his place over the weekend with a round of 70 to sit on two under.

Siddikur Rahman of Bangladesh made a hole-in-one on the second hole but failed to make the cut after finishing seven over par.

Day one report

Nick Cullen, Jarryd Felton, Andrew Dodt and Ben Campbell all registered five-under-par 67s on the opening day of the Fiji International.

Of the quartet, Dodt was the only one to manage a bogey-free round and he recorded birdies on the first, fifth and 15th as well as an eagle on the par-five 17th at Natadola Bay.

The 32-year-old is also the only member of the quartet who has won on the European Tour previously, but this season has not gone to plan as he seeks a first top 10 in 2018.

"That was not easy," he said. "It was very tough, very windy, you had to control your ball, course management was a big factor. It was a really, really solid round.

"The last six months haven't been that great. I haven't been able to put four rounds together, I've put rounds together here and there, so today was a step in the right direction. That's one with three to go."

Fellow Australians Cullen and Felton had just one blemish while New Zealander Campbell dropped shots on the second and 13th but made seven birdies to sit in a share of the lead.

Cullen, currently plying his trade on the Challenge Tour, said: "It was pretty solid. I think I only made one bogey and that was a three-putt. I hit a couple of really good iron shots to a foot and holed a couple of putts, just pretty solid.

"It wasn't the best warm-up, I didn't feel that great on the range. Sometimes you end up having good days after that, so it worked out well."

Matthew Griffin registered three birdies in a row and sits two shots off the lead, alongside Australian compatriots Maverick Antcliff and Stephen Leaney.
