Tuesday December 10

Salzburg 0-2 Liverpool

  • Liverpool have now progressed from all three of their Champions League group stages under manager Jürgen Klopp; they had been knocked out at this stage in both of their last two group stages in the competition before the German’s arrival (2009-10 and 2014-15).
  • FC Red Bull Salzburg’s 16 goals scored is the most by a side to be eliminated from their Champions League group since Chelsea also scored 16 but finished third in 2012-13; today was the only one of Salzburg’s six Champions League matches in 2019-20 that they failed to score in.
  • Liverpool kept a clean sheet in an away Champions League game for the first time in 11 such matches, having conceded 18 goals in their previous 10 away games in the competition before tonight.

Inter 1-2 Barcelona

  • Inter Milan have been eliminated from each of their last three group stages in major European competition, also going out in the group stage of the 2016-17 Europa League and last season’s Champions League.
  • Barcelona have become only the second side to avoid defeat in 20 consecutive Champions League group stage games (W14 D6), after Real Madrid between 2012 and 2017 (30 matches).
  • Barcelona’s Ansu Fati (17 years, 40 days old) became the youngest ever goalscorer in Champions League history, overtaking Peter Oforiquaye’s record when he scored against Rosenborg in October 1997 (17y 194d).

Chelsea 2-1 Lille

  • Chelsea have now progressed to the knockout stages in 15 of their 16 Champions League participations, failing only in 2012-13.
  • Frank Lampard is the first English manager to progress a team from a Champions League group stage (having taken charge of all six group games) since Harry Redknapp with Spurs in 2010-11.
  • Tammy Abraham has scored 13 goals in all competitions this season for Chelsea, more than twice as many as the nearest teammate (Christian Pulisic, 6).

Ajax 0-1 Valencia

  • Valencia have topped their Champions League group for the first time since 2006-07 under Quique Sánchez Flores – they were knocked out at the quarter-final stage by Chelsea that season.
  • Ajax are the first side to fail to progress from their group stage despite earning 10 points or more since FC Porto in 2015-16.
  • Ajax have lost consecutive home matches within a single European Cup/Champions League season for the very first time.

Borussia Dortmund 2-1 Slavia Prague

  • Borussia Dortmund have successfully progressed from the Champions League group stages in six of their last seven campaigns in the competition, only failing in 2017-18 in this time.
  • Jadon Sancho has scored in each of his last five games for Borussia Dortmund in all competitions (six goals), the best scoring run of his professional club career.
  • Jadon Sancho became just the second Englishman to score in consecutive Champions League appearances for a non-English club, after Chris Sutton with Celtic in September 2004.

Benfica 3-0 Zenit St Petersburg

  • Benfica’s Franco Cervi scored his first Champions League goal in 19 games, since netting against Dynamo Kyiv in October 2016.
  • Pizzi has scored in three of his last four Champions League games for Benfica, having failed to score in any of his first 33 appearances in the competition.
  • Douglas Santos became the first Zenit player to be sent off in the Champions League since Domenico Criscito in February 2016, which also came against Benfica.

Lyon 2-2 RB Leipzig

  • Lyon have qualified for the knockout stages of the Champions League in back-to-back seasons, having failed to do so in their previous two appearances in the competition (2015-16 and 2016-17).
  • RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner has been directly involved in 20 goals in his last nine games in all competitions, scoring 12 and assisting eight.
  • All six of RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner’s Champions League goals have been scored away from home – he’s the highest scorer in the history of the competition to have scored 100% of his goals in away games.

Napoli 4-0 Genk

  • Arkadiusz Milik opened the scoring after just 2 minutes and 5 seconds, the second-earliest Napoli have ever netted in the Champions League, trailing Zielinski’s 1 minute and 35 second effort against Feyenoord in 2017-18.
  • Napoli’s Arkadiusz Milik became just the seventh player in Champions League history to score a hat-trick within the first 38 minutes of a game, and the first since Zlatan Ibrahimovic for PSG versus Anderlecht in October 2013 (36 minutes).
  • Aged 17 years and 287 days, Genk’s Maarten Vandevoordt became the youngest goalkeeper to ever start a Champions League game, overtaking fellow Belgian Mile Svilar's record set at Benfica in 2017 (18 years and 52 days).

Dinamo Zagreb 1-4 Man City

  • Manchester City have scored 501 goals in 199 games in all competitions under Pep Guardiola - 96 more than any other English team since the Spaniard was appointed in 2016.
  • Each of Gabriel Jesus’ last 14 goals for Man City in all competitions have come away from the Etihad (inc. neutral venues). In fact, Jesus became the first player under the age of 23 to score multiple hat-tricks in the Champions League.
  • Man City’s Gabriel Jesus (22y 252d) became the youngest Brazilian player to reach 10 goals in the Champions League - overtaking Neymar (23y 75d), with the City forward now on 12 CL goals.
  • Phil Foden, who made his 50th appearance for Man City tonight, has now scored three Champions League goals for the club; the joint-most by an English teenager in the competition alongside Wayne Rooney, Theo Walcott and Jadon Sancho.

Shakhtar Donetsk 0-3 Atalanta

  • Shakhtar Donetsk have been eliminated in the Champions League group stage for the third time in their last four campaigns, including each of the last two.
  • Under the current group stage format, Atalanta are the first team to qualify for the Last 16 of the Champions League after losing their opening three group stage games.
  • Since the start of the 2017-18 season, Shakhtar Donetsk have been shown more red cards in the Champions League than any other team (four).

Atletico Madrid 2-0 Lokomotiv Moscow

  • Atletico Madrid have qualified for the knockout stage in six of their last seven Champions League campaigns, only falling short at the group stage in 2017-18.
  • Both of Joao Felix’s goals in the Champions League for Atletico Madrid have come against Lokomotiv Moscow, also netting in October at RZD Arena.
  • Atletico’s Kieran Trippier became the first Englishman to miss a penalty in the Champions League for a non-English side since Alan Thompson for Celtic vs Lyon in September 2003.

Bayern Munich 3-1 Tottenham Hotspur

  • FC Bayern München became just the second club to win all six of their group games in a single UEFA Champions League campaign (in the competition’s current format – since 2003-04) after Real Madrid, who have done so twice (in 2011-12 & 2014-15).
  • Spurs manager Jose Mourinho has lost each of his three away games at Bayern Munich, with all three coming in the Champions League in charge of different teams (2-3 with Chelsea, 1-2 with Real Madrid and 1-3 with Spurs).
  • Bayern Munich have gone unbeaten at home in the Champions League group stage for the sixth consecutive campaign, winning 17 of their 18 games at the Allianz Arena since the 2014-15 season (D1).
  • Spurs’ Ryan Sessegnon is the third-youngest player to score a Champions League goal under Jose Mourinho, after Carlos Alberto (19y 167d) and Mario Balotelli (18y 84d).

Club Brugge 1-3 Real Madrid

  • Real Madrid have won four of their last five away games in the Champions League group stages (L1), as many as they registered across their previous nine in the competition (W4 D3 L2).
  • Vinícius Júnior’s strike was his first ever Champions League goal for Real Madrid (8 appearances), and his first goal in any competition since September (in LaLiga v Osasuna).
  • The average age of Real Madrid’s line-up against Club Brugge was 24 years and 325 days – their youngest in any match in any competition this season.

Bayer Leverkusen 0-2 Juventus

  • Juventus have remained unbeaten in the Champions League group stages (current format since 2003-04) for the fifth time and first since 2016-17 when they reached the final.
  • Since the start of last season, no Juventus player has had a hand in more Champions League goals than Paulo Dybala (10 - 8 goals, 2 assists).
  • Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 128th Champions League goal, 14 more than any other player. The Portuguese forward has also netted in 84 different CL games, also 14 more than any other player has managed.

Paris Saint-Germain 5-0 Galatasaray

  • Under the current format, only Real Madrid (three occasions) have progressed to the knockout stages of the Champions League conceding no more than two goals in their six group matches on more occasions than PSG (2019-20 and 2015-16).
  • Since his Champions League debut in September 2013, PSG’s Neymar has both scored and assisted in 9 different matches, only Lionel Messi (10) and Cristiano Ronaldo (11) have done so on more occasions in the competition in this time.
  • PSG’s Kylian Mbappé has scored five goals in five Champions League appearances this season; only in 2016/17 (6 in 9 for Monaco) has he managed a more prolific goalscoring campaign in the competition.

Olympiakos 1-0 Crvena Zvezda

  • Olympiakos picked up their first win in the Champions League since November 2015 (2-1 v Dinamo Zagreb), ending a run of 13 games without a victory in the competition.
  • Crvena Zvezda have lost all six of their away games in the Champions League, conceding 22 goals and scoring just two in return.
  • Olympiakos scored with what was their 24th shot of the game against Crvena Zvezda – they attempted 27 shots in total; their most in a single Champions League game (since 2003-04).
