Sergio Aguero v Thierry Henry: Who is the greatest Premier League import? Our Soccer Saturday pundits give their views

Our Soccer Saturday pundits give their view on who is the best Premier League import out of Sergio Aguero and Thierry Henry.

Aguero's brace against Crystal Palace saw him bring up his 251th Manchester City goal while a week earlier he moved past Henry's Premier League tally of 175 to become the Premier League's highest ever overseas scorer.

Both have similar strike rates, with Aguero playing 256 top-flight games to Henry's 258 but the Argentine isn't as prolific with the assists, supplying 45 other goals compared to the latter's 74.

In terms of titles, Aguero has won four with Man City, including the record-breaking points season, while Henry's goals helped Arsenal top the table twice and was of course part of the 'Invincibles'.

The Frenchman did win the Premier League Golden Boot four times in his career and although Aguero has managed it just once, he is well placed to pick up his second this season.

Here's how the experts compare them...

Charlie Nicholas

Thierry Henry is the more all-round player for me. Sergio Aguero has been magnificent, and it does not surprise me that he is the record foreign goalscorer in the Premier League. Although he has scored spectacular goals from outside the box, he is a penalty box player.

He has been fabulous to watch, but Henry was different. I look back at Henry outside of the box, he got the tap-ins, but some of the things that Henry did for the team was phenomenal. His goal against Tottenham, where he beat everybody from inside his own half to score at Highbury sticks out for me.

If it was an opposition corner, Arsenal could score from it, especially due to his pace and movement. His understanding and assists were up there, as well as his leadership qualities.

As an all-rounder, I think Henry had more. It was and has been a treat to watch them both in their pinnacle and to be able to have seen them. I thought Henry was a complete footballer, rather than Aguero in and around the box, which is why he gets the nod.

Verdict: Thierry Henry

This is a really difficult one. Sergio Aguero has been one of my all-time favourite Premier League players. Even when Manchester City were blowing Aston Villa away, he still found time to argue with Jack Grealish. He wanted perfection and he wants more, in every single game.

I just think Thierry Henry, because he could play on the left, drift to the right, play down the middle, could offer a bit more. He had a variety of things. I am not doing Sergio a disservice, the two of them are out and out strikers, but if I am asked who I think is slightly the best, I would have to say Thierry Henry.

Aguero has been a fantastic association for the Premier League. The way he has done things, although when Pep first came in, I do think that he was not Pep Guardiola’s ideal forward, and perhaps this was why he brought Gabriel Jesus and did this to play him instead of Aguero.

It shows how Aguero understands the game, and how he has won Pep over in general, but it's still just Henry for me.

Verdict: Thierry Henry

Matt Le Tissier

I was asked this question the other day. Both will go down as legends forever more in the Premier League - their records are phenomenal. It is like asking which two of your kids you prefer the most!

If push comes to shove, I would probably take Thierry Henry for his sheer entertainment value as well as end-product. He just looked the part in the way that he got about the pitch, and could drift past players with ease.

Verdict: Thierry Henry
