Eddie Howe's Newcastle have been flat-track bullies vs 'the rest' at home

Super 6 predictions and correct score tips: Greedy Magpies

Super 6 is back for the Champions League midweek and with Jake Osgathorpe on his umpteenth holiday of the campaign, Ninad Barbadikar and James Cantrill join forces.

Round 12 had five correct results out of six in a promising return for Jake, hopefully we can go one better with the European action on offer this week.

Danish delight for Red Devils

  • Man Utd vs Copenhagen
  • TNT Sports 2: Tuesday, 20:00 BST

Ninad Barbadikar (@NinadB_06)

Slowly but surely, Erik ten Hag's Manchester United are starting to find form again, even if it isn't pretty to watch. With the 2-1 win against Sheffield United, the Red Devils won back-to-back games in the league for the first time this season.

Scott McTominay was the hero in the first of those two wins, also managing to find the back of the net against the Blades with a scuffed volley in the box.

With Casemiro still serving a suspension in Champions League action, Ten Hag will count on the Scotland international to deliver once again.

Tuesday's opponents had a dismal run in the competition last year, failing to keep a single clean sheet, finishing bottom of the group. Expect them to get no joy against a sub-par United side.

With 15 goals conceded from an xGA of 14.3 (ninth worst) in the Danish Superliga, their defensive frailties should be exposed by a potent, albeit underperforming United attack.

Score prediction: Manchester United 3-0 Copenhagen (Sky Bet odds: 8/1)

Gunners to edge it away

  • Sevilla vs Arsenal
  • TNT Sports 1: Tuesday, 20:00 BST

The noise, or lack thereof, coming from the away dressing room at Stamford Bridge on Saturday was telling.

Last season, Arsenal were often accused of over celebrating but this was not the case at the weekend, despite scoring twice in the last 15 minutes to snatch a point in a 2-2 draw with Chelsea.

It’s a mark of the rising standards in North London.

Arsenal remained unbeaten on all domestic fronts, their only defeat came on the continent.

A shock 2-1 loss in Lens, a game the visitors were 4/6 to win, has muddied the waters in Group B.

Mikel Arteta’s side remain favourites to top their Champions League group but the defeat last time out adds unwanted pressure in Seville, especially as the hosts are also winless.

Honours were shared in each of Sevilla’s Champions League games to date, as was the case against Real Madrid (1-1) on Saturday, meaning Los Nervionenses have drawn five of their last seven fixtures.

Expect this clash at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium to be settled on the finest of margins, a contest the visitors should edge.

Score prediction: Sevilla 0-1 Arsenal (Sky Bet odds: 13/2)

Atletico to sweep past the Bhoys

  • Celtic vs Atletico Madrid
  • TNT Sports 3: Wednesday, 20:00 BST

Ninad Barbadikar (@NinadB_06)

Diego Simeone's Atletico Madrid are beginning to find a fun mix between looking exciting with the ball whilst still retaining the defensive doggedness that we've come to associate with them for years.

After putting three past Celta Vigo most recently, they now have the most number of goals from open-play in La Liga (20), Alvaro Morata and Antoine Griezmann combined have scored half of that figure thus far. 12 of those goals have come away from home, the most of any La Liga side thus far.

Atleti

Meanwhile Brendan Rodgers's Celtic have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last five, losing their first two encounters in the Champions League to Feyenoord and Lazio. With just one goal scored from those two losses, Atleti should expect a comfortable outing away at Celtic Park.

They finished bottom of Group B last season; however, they could retain top spot of group E this season with a hammering against the Scottish Premiership champions, edging ahead of Lazio who are level on points.

Score prediction: Celtic 0-4 Atletico (Sky Bet odds: 33/1)

Magpies to dominate Dortmund

  • Newcastle vs Dortmund

Eddie Howe's Newcastle are going from strength to strength this season. Following a 4-0 hammering of Crystal Palace at home, the Premier League's form side host a visiting Dortmund side that are yet to win in the group stages this season.

Edin Terzic's side have been stronger in the Bundesliga, remaining unbeaten to date (6W 2D), however, they have failed to convince in the Champions League thus far. Recording 0.7, 1.0 xGF in a loss against PSG and stalemate against Milan respectively.

Newcastle will prove to be too much to handle, however. The Magpies have accumulated the highest open-play xG in the league (14.82) and also have the highest rate of non-penalty goals per90(2.44).

Those goals have come from everywhere for Howe, 13 different players have recorded at least one goal contribution this term and with the nous they showed against PSG to put four past the Parisian side, Dortmund are likely to face a similar fate.

Score prediction: Newcastle 3-0 Dortmund (Sky Bet odds: 12/1)

Honours even in Paris

  • PSG vs Milan
  • TNT Sports 4: Wednesday, 20:00 BST

James Cantrill (@JimmyThePunt)

Both of Milan’s Champions League games have ended goalless this campaign.

Given how Eddie Howe set his stall out at San Siro the stalemate with Newcastle was plausible but the 0-0 at Dortmund caught a few off guard.

Rossoneri’s tedious matches on the continent can half be pinned on their offensive woes and wasteful finishing.

Stefano Pioli’s side squandered three ‘big chances’ (xG greater than 0.30) and an xG of 1.65 at the Westfalenstadion. Against Newcastle, they bettered both tallies failing to capitalise on the four ‘big chances’ they mustered. Milan hit 25 shots that game, racking up an xG of 1.99, and man of the match Nick Pope made eight saves.

Milan’s defence has been their salvation. The shutout in Germany meant they have kept clean sheets in each of their last four Champions League group games and clean sheets in 54% of their games this season.

With the quality Paris Saint-Germain have, they can pose a threat to any side on the planet, the 4-1 humbling at St James’ Park exposed the vulnerabilities of their attack.

Score prediction: PSG 1-1 Milan (Sky Bet odds: 1/1)

Man (City) against (Young) Boy(s)

  • Young Boys vs Manchester City
  • TNT Sports 4: Wednesday, 20:00 BST

James Cantrill (@JimmyThePunt)

It is no coincidence that during Rodri’s absence, Manchester City’s form slumped.

City lost all three games without the Spaniard, a feat made even more impressive as Wolves (2-1) were one of the three sides to beat them along with Arsenal (1-0) and Newcastle (1-0).

With Pep Guardiola’s lynchpin back in the heart of midfield, it is no surprise to see the Citizens get back to winning ways at the weekend with a 2-1 victory over Brighton.

Rodri reacts to his red card

Heavily odds on here, it does not look a question of if the visitors will win but a matter of by how much?

City have won each of their two group games by the 3-1 scoreline.

Their opponents beat Manchester United 2-1 in the 2021/22 campaign in their last victory in this competition. Since Villareal have scored four at the Wankdorf Stadium in this competition, Atalanta and RB Leipzig bagged three.

Score prediction: Young Boys 1-3 Man City (Sky Bet odds: 9/1)
