Premier League: Six positive coronavirus tests across three clubs

Six unnamed players or staff have tested positive for coronavirus across three Premier League clubs.

They will now self-isolate for seven days.

The results come from the top flight's first wave of mass testing as it prepares for an attempted resumption of the season at some point in June.

"The Premier League is providing this aggregated information for the purposes of competition integrity and transparency," it said in a statement.

"No specific details as to clubs or individuals will be provided by the league and results will be made public in this way after each round of testing."

Premier League teams returned to group training this week

Premier League clubs agreed to begin stage one of Project Restart's return-to-training protocol on Monday, by starting non-contact training in small groups the following day.

The groups must not exceed five people, social distancing must be observed and sessions are restricted to 75 minutes in length.

There have been no top-flight matches played in England since March 13, when the majority of the sporting calendar was suspended because of the coronavirus pandemic.

June 12 had been mooted as a potential restart date, but a later return to playing is now looking more likely.

Should the 2019/20 season resume, every team would have at least nine fixtures left to fulfil.
