Former QPR and Blackpool manager Ian Holloway favourite for AFC Wimbledon job

Former Blackpool, QPR and Millwall manager Ian Holloway is the 9/2 favourite to get the vacant position at AFC Wimbledon.

The Dons announced on Monday that manager Neal Ardley had left the club by mutual consent.

Ardley, who was appointed by Wimbledon in October 2012, departed alongside his assistant manager Neil Cox.

First-team coach Simon Bassey has been placed in temporary charge of the struggling Sky Bet League One club, who are second bottom in the table.

Wimbledon chief executive Erik Samuelson told the club's website: "Neal has been a credit to the club in everything he has done.

"He leaves with my personal thanks and gratitude for what he has done in his time here at AFC Wimbledon."

EFL title sponsors Sky Bet make Holloway the favourite for the job, with Darren Ferguson, Steve Cotterill and Mark Warbuton narrowly behind in the running.

The outsiders include former Ipswich and Wolves man Mick McCarthy, who has been out of work following his departure from the Tractor Boys prior to the end of the 2017/18 season.

Paul Heckingbottom, who oversaw Barnsley's successful promotion to the Sky Bet Championship in 2016, is also in the running at 14/1 while Phil Brown can be found at the same price following his sacking from Swindon.

Vinnie Jones, a member of the iconic Wimbledon 'Crazy Gang' who won the FA Cup in 1988 after beating Liverpool in the final, is a huge 100/1 outsider to embark on his managerial career with the Dons.
