More ODI woes for Australia as India win the series

India condemned Australia to their seventh consecutive one day international series defeat after clinching a dramatic seven-wicket victory in Melbourne.

With the series level at one match apiece, MS Dhoni starred with the bat in Friday's decider, as India chased down their target of 231 with four balls remaining at the MCG.

Dhoni, who was dropped on 0 and 74, hit an unbeaten 87 from 114 balls, before Kedar Jadhav (61 not out) scored the winning runs. It marked veteran Dhoni's third half century in as many matches.

Australia, who will begin the defence of their World Cup this summer, have now failed to win an ODI series in two years.

The hosts have struggled with the bat in recent times, and their poor form continued at the MCG with openers Alex Carey (five) and Aaron Finch (14) dismissed cheaply.

Shaun Marsh (39), Usman Khawaja (34) and Glenn Maxwell (26) all failed to notch big scores with Peter Handscomb (58) the only Australian to make a half-century.

Leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal was the thorn in Australia's side, taking career-best figures of 6-42 from his 10 overs.

Dhoni, who survived being out from the first delivery he faced when dropped by Glenn Maxwell, then did the damage in India's reply to heap more misery on Australia.
