Bangladesh won by 90 runs and take a 1-0 lead in the series

Bangladesh 324 for 5 (Tamim 127, Shakib 72, Sabbir 54, Lakmal 2-45)

Sri Lanka 234 (Chandimal 59, Thisara 55, Mustafizur 3-56)

Tamim Iqbal became the first Bangladesh player to reach 10,000 international runs as his century inspired a 90-run victory in the first one-day international against Sri Lanka.

The opener hit 127 off 142 balls at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium, with half centuries from Shakib Al Hasan (72) and Sabbir Rahman (54) also helping the tourists post 324 for five after being asked to bat first.

Despite Dinesh Chandimal's 59 and 55 from Thisara Perera, Sri Lanka's chase fell short as they were bowled out for 234.

It was the first time Bangladesh had posted a 300-plus total away from home against a higher-ranked team and it was a lead they never looked in danger of surrendering.

Tamim lost opening partner Soumya Sarkar early but he enjoyed a 90-run stand with Sabbir before putting on 144 with Shakib for the fourth wicket.

Momentum remained with the tourists when they were given the ball as Mashrafe Mortaza removed Danushka Gunathilaka off the third delivery of the innings.

Kusal Mendis was the next to go and when Upul Tharanga was caught by Mortaza at mid on off the bowling of Taskin Ahmed, Sri Lanka had made just 31 for the loss of three wickets.

Chandimal steadied the ship as he reached his 50 off 62 balls but he became 19-year-old debutant Mehedi Hasan's second scalp when an attempted sweep was taken by Sarkar at short leg.

Mortaza's removal of Sachith Pathirana (31) left the hosts 171 for seven and, despite some resistance from Perera, they fell to defeat in the opening game of the three-match series.
