India have taken a 1-0 lead in their Twenty20 series with South Africa after a 28-run victory at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg.
Shikhar Dhawan and Bhuvneshwar Kumar particularly impressed as India's batsmen built a score of 203 for five against opponents without several of their biggest names. AB de Villiers will miss the remainder of the series with a knee injury suffered before the match started.
South Africa's stand-in captain JP Duminy won the toss, but they were unable to resist the tourists securing their highest T20 total against them.
That was mainly thanks to Dhawan's 72 off 39 balls, which included two sixes and 10 fours.
The hosts ended their response on 175 for nine, after Kumar took career best figures of five for 24 in dismissing Reeze Hendricks, Heinrich Klaasen, Chris Morris and Dane Peterson.
The second fixture of the series is on Wednesday.
