Latest news from day one of third Test between England and India

Latest news from day one of the third Specsavers Test between England and India where Virat Kohli has fallen three short of his century.

Adil Rashid dismissed Virat Kohli three short of what would have been a deserved century as England fought back against India in the third Test at Trent Bridge.

Having been rocked by Chris Woakes before Lunch, Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane dragged India from 82-3 to 241-3 with a wonderful partnership that threatened to take the game away from England after Joe Root had won the toss and opted to bowl first in Nottingham.

Rahane, badly out of form on the tour so far, looked much more like his old self and was particularly punishing to any width on offer while Kohli was happy to bide his time and wait for the bowlers to drift onto his pads.

Rahane was eventually dismissed on 81 when Stuart Broad induced an outside edge which Alistair Cook caught remarkably diving to his left with one hand.

Kohli continued on his merry way but and was nearing another Test match hundred when Rashid, who had been so poor earlier in the day, returned to the attack and suckered Kohli into driving at a loopy leg-break which caught the outside edge and landed into the grateful hands of Ben Stokes at slip.

That dismissal brought debutant Rishabh Pant to the crease and he began positively as India moved onto 299-5.

Pant and Hardik Pandya (18) looked set to take India to stumps but the latter was dismissed in the final throws of the day when James Anderson picked up his first wicket of the innings.
