England lost all 10 wickets in the afternoon session on day two of the third Specsavers Test with India at Trent Bridge.
After taking the final four India wickets for 22 runs, to give the tourists a total of 329, England appeared to be in the ascendancy at 46 without loss at lunch, but lost nine wickets for 74 before some swashbuckling Jos Buttler shots restored some credibility.
Alastair Cook (29) and Keaton Jennings (20) fell in successive balls before Ollie Pope, captain Joe Root, all-rounder Ben Stokes, Jonny Bairstow, Chris Woakes, Adil Rashid and Stuart Broad all fell cheaply as Hardik Pandya took five wickets.
Buttler struck 39 to top score for England, who lead the five-match series 2-0 but trail India by 168 runs ahead of the tourists' second innings.
Nottinghamshire drizzle postponed the start time to 11.30am - and means play is likely to continue until 7pm - but England were not unduly delayed.

Rashid was the fifth England batsman caught behind by Pant, to become Pandya's fourth victim for just 24 runs.
Pandya got a fifth when Broad was trapped leg before wicket.
England avoided the follow on but India extended the session, delaying tea. Buttler played some shots to increase England's total and delay India before he struck the ball into the deep to give Bumrah his second wicket.
India looked to be positive when they began their seconds innings, Shikhar Dhawan picking up two boundaries in the first over before Rahul signalled his intentions with a fierce cut shot off Stuart Broad which whistled to the point fence.
Another crunch through the covers took Rahul to 31 as India raced to 46-0.
Stokes made the breakthrough for England, bowling Rahul through the gate for 36 before Cheteshwar Pujara took India to 81-1 with three quick boundaries.
India raced to 112 before Adil Rashid deceived Dhawan to have him stumped for 44 with India now building a formidable lead.
