Derbyshire sign New Zealand pacer Matt Henry for T20

Derbyshire have signed New Zealand fast bowler Matt Henry as overseas player for the 2017 NatWest T20 Blast.

The 25-year-old, who has previous experience in county cricket with Worcestershire in 2016, will be available for the entire NatWest T20 Blast which will take place in July and August.

Henry has featured in six Twenty20 and 30 one-day internationals for the Black Caps. He has appeared in 59 T20 fixtures in total, claiming 52 wickets at an average of 29.

Henry will work at Derbyshire with fellow New Zealander John Wright, who in October became the first specialist T20 coach appointed by a county.

Derbyshire director of cricket Kim Barnett said: "I've been liaising with John Wright and Matt was one of his first picks. He came highly recommended as a fast bowler and also someone with a high strike-rate with the bat down the order.

"One of John's key areas for this summer's competition is to keep the runs down, and with the attack we've assembled, which also includes Hardus Viljoen and Imran Tahir, we've given ourselves the best chance of doing this."
