SUNRISERS LEEDS can turn the tables on Manchester Super Giants at the Oval on Friday and book their place in the final of The Hundred.
It was only a couple of days ago that the Super Giants dominated proceedings when these two sides met at Old Trafford, first making good use of conditions with the ball before chasing down a modest victory target with ease.
Following an impressive run, particularly with the bat, Sunrisers were brought back down to earth in Manchester, but conditions are key with this team, and the Oval promises to suit much better.
Where the surface at Old Trafford was challenging and offered something for the spinners, the Oval is generally flat and true, with good pace to encourage shot-making. The ball tends to fly here.
There are many similarities with the Oval and Headingley, where Sunrisers have been so dominant with the bat.
Mitchell Marsh is currently the tournament’s leading runscorer and has scored over 400 runs from just eight matches at an average of 50.75, while his opening partner Ryan Rickelton sits fourth on the runs list.
Add Harry Brook, Zak Crawley and Dan Lawrence and this is a fearsome batting line-up, one that is made for a ground like the Oval.
To illustrate the point, four of the ten highest team totals this season have been made by Sunrisers.
The bowling is probably a bit better than given credit for, but this team is really all about batting power – and that is taken to win the day.
Of course, the Super Giants boast some heavy hitters of their own, namely Jos Buttler and Tim Seifert, but even they haven’t been able to match Sunrisers this year.
The bowling is very good, but pace is their key weapon and that will be ideal for the likes of Marsh, Rickelton and Brook on a surface like this, just as it was in Leeds earlier in the competition.
Stick with Sunrisers is the advice.
