Tyron Zeuge beats Isaac Ekpo to retain his crown

Germany's Tyron Zeuge successfully retained his WBA 'regular' super middleweight title with a controversial win over Nigerian Isaac Ekpo on Saturday night.

The 24-year-old (20-1-11KOs) was awarded the fight despite suffering a severe cut above his right eye, which forced the referee to stop the fight.

The judges’ scorecards scored the bout 49-46, 49-47 and 48-47 in the German’s favour.

Prior to the Zeuge's injury, the fight had been close with 34-year-old Ekpo battling back after a poor start.
