The Bolton-born boxer made a successful return to the ring when registering a first-round knockout of Phil Lo Greco back in April and Khan is in confident mood as he prepares to take on the Colombian.
Khan said: "I still feel strong, I was running against the young 23-year-olds (in training camp), then sparring against 25-year-olds who are at the peak of their career - and I was out boxing them.
"I was doing so well, so I was thinking to myself 'age is just a number for me'. I work harder than most young fighters.
"I really feel young, explosive and strong."
Khan is 1/20 with Sky Bet to complete what should be a routine victory against Vargas - an 8/1 chance - and the former world champion is already looking ahead to bigger and bolder targets after this fight.
He added: "This next fight is very important to me, beating Vargas, not just beating him but also looking really good against him will only take me onto the big world title fights.
"I'll be challenging for a world title in my opinion by the end of the year, or early next year.
"It's how you look after your body. In training camp I worked hard, I never cheat myself. At 31, I'm at the peak of my career."
Meanwhile, Tommy Langford is hopeful he can see off Jason Welborn when they meet again in their British Middleweight clash on the same card.
The local rivals went to war over twelve rounds in a British Boxing Board of Control nominated Fight of the Year contender back in May with Welborn pulling off a shock result via a split decision.
Langford had been the hot favourite going into that fight and is expecting to getting back on track having admitted mistakes were made in his preparation for their first encounter.
He said: "I’ll hold my hands up, I overlooked him last time. Fair play to Jason, he made it in to his type of fight which distracted me and put me off my game plan.
“I got it severely wrong. It’s not good enough just admitting that you got it wrong, you have to realise why you got it wrong.
"Thankfully we got the rematch straight away and I’m looking forward to putting the record straight and showing people what I’m really about.
"You’ve got to give Welborn credit, he fought the right fight for him. It was a full on tear up for the twelve rounds.
"I’m 100% focused on winning my belt back, I’m not looking past it. It doesn’t matter how I’m going to win, I know I will win.
"There was a lot that went wrong last time, we’ve identified some technical aspects of my game and have been improving on that for this camp. I’ve got to get back to my boxing and use my feet a lot more this time around."
