TORTURED SOUL - 20:30 Southwell (NAP)
TORTURED SOUL still had six rivals in front of him and plenty of ground to make up when turning into the straight at Lingfield last month, but he produced a strong finish to lead close home, doing well to peg back one who had stolen a march. That victory was achieved over a mile and a quarter but Tortured Soul's previous wins all came over further and his strength at the finish suggests he'll benefit from stepping back up in trip here. He also remains fairly treated, despite edging up 3 lb in the weights, as he is still 1 lb lower than when successful at Lingfield last January.
HOT FUSS - 15:35 Sandown
HOT FUSS looked rusty when finishing in mid-division in the November Handicap on his reappearance and was still probably shaking off a few cobwebs when only sixth in the Gerry Feilden back over hurdles a few weeks later. However, he ran well at a big price when runner-up to Wilful in a valuable handicap hurdle at Ascot before Christmas, seeing things out thoroughly having been outpaced turning for home. It's also worth noting that Hot Fuss had shaped nicely when fourth in the Fred Winter at the Cheltenham Festival last season, and he looks capable of taking advantage of a drop in grade on Saturday.
Sunday selections
BISHOP’S GLORY – 15.35 Southwell (NAP)
We’re left with slim pickings on Sunday due to the cold snap but Southwell keeps the racing show on the road and Joey Ramsden’s BISHOP’S GLORY could be the answer in the Make The Move To Midnite Handicap over five furlongs. It’s a distance this horse has run over just once in 24 starts and that was on debut at this track, but he’s well handicapped on his old form and grinding away over five furlongs on this track might just suit him. He ran well at this course in a classified stakes this time last year and with the forecast pace a strong one he could go well again while his win at Newcastle three starts ago is a rare piece of recent winning form in this field.
