SOEUR DE FLASH - 16:38 Kempton (NAP)
With Billy Loughnane booked for the first time, a good draw in stall two, and the prospect of much more to come, there is plenty to recommend SOEUR DE FLASH in the six-furlong nursery at Kempton. Clive Cox's filly showed up really well on handicap debut at Leicester last month, only headed in the final stages after cutting out most of the running, and a subsequent 2lb rise in the ratings seems more than fair. She's from a family this yard knows well and a first victory looks on the cards here despite the competitive-looking field.
LORD D'OR - 15:30 Newmarket
LORD D'OR appeals among the outsiders for Newmarket's bet365 Old Rowley Cup Handicap. He has a frustrating profile of four seconds in a row but seemed to enhance his form again when sent handicapping and upped to this 1m4f trip at Ascot last time, looking a shade unfortunate not to finish closer to the winner (briefly blocked in his run). The form from his Windsor maiden defeat back in July has worked out well and, having been left alone on a BHA mark of 81, he sneaks into this decent race right at the bottom of the weights. Nicola Currie gained some experience on Andrew Balding's horse last time and the first-time cheekpieces worn that day are retained.
COSMIC CONNECTION - 15:43 Chepstow
The four-year-olds Lord Byron and North Shore look potentially well-placed in Friday's Persian War Novices' Hurdle but a spot of course experience can go a long way around Chepstow and, at the likely prices, I much prefer the look of COSMIC CONNECTION. He really impressed with the way he went about his business when defying a mark of 129 in a strong novices' handicap at Sandown back in April and he'd earlier won well over two miles at this venue. From a point-to-point background, he looks sure to appreciate the longer trip on offer now returning to action and trainer Chris Gordon is unlikely to have left him short of a gallop for such a valuable contest.
TOCA MADERA - 16:25 York
Some typically competitive fare at York on Friday but TOCA MADERA is not to be missed in the five-furlong handicap. He showed bright speed when travelling strongly close to the pace before holding off the late lunge of Badri in a conditions event at Beverley last month. The three horses who followed him home there were rated 99, 99 and 108 so David O'Meara's charge has major claims from stall two back in handicap company from a perch of 95.
