England v Ireland: Odds and tips

Sky Bet make England 2/5 favourites to capitalise on home advantage and deal Ireland a killer blow. Andy Farrell is 7/4 to win with Ireland, who get seven points on the handicap.

Tony Calvin's recommended bet: Ireland (+7.5pts) v England at 5/6

"I don’t think we have seen much in victory or defeat to allow us to gauge where England are after that World Cup final defeat, but I reckon Ireland come into this game in a better collective head-space.

"Horrible phrase but I have said it now.

"I was going to wait until England announced their team on Friday, but I can’t see any big changes in the offing – perhaps Manu Tuilagi will be back in the centre – so I am happy to take Ireland +7.5 at 5/6 with BetVictor (the general +7 is fine if you can’t access that price, and indeed you may prefer it with evens available), especially with a touch of rain possibly about at Twickenham on Sunday."

England v Ireland: Inside the camps

  • Brian O'Driscoll on Eddie Jones

"I think Eddie says some things that overstep the mark sometimes.

"He said something about Jonny Sexton and brought his mum and dad into it four years ago and that's not benefiting or building the game - that's scaremongering.

"We don't want that - we're trying to help the product, not hinder it. Sometimes he gets it wrong.

"I think the stuff about brutality is harmless enough - particularly when you get your backside handed to you after the game so we can all have a good chuckle about it.

"There are many different sides to Eddie. I think he very much thinks about what he is saying and is quite calculated. I think there are certain things that are close to the edge."

  • Eddie Jones

"The Six Nations is a contest competition. It's all about the contest at the set-piece, in the air or on the ground. Or both.

"There's no guessing out there, the Six Nations is a pretty simple game. You've got to win the set-piece, win the ground and win the air.

"Ireland are a very well coached team. We respect their back row so we'll have to be good in that area. Ireland are an all-round well coached side.

"They've got good players, so we don't see one area being stronger than another. We'll take them on their merit and we'll need to play well."
