Cheaply bought colt; first foal; dam was prolific winner including on the AW; also related to many winners on an artificial surface; interesting to see level of market support.

Fetched 25,000gns as a yearling; eight foal related to numerous winners in distance in excess of a mile and on the AW; hard to assess but worth a check in the betting.

Purchased for 11,000 gns as a yearling in October last year; decent effort on debut last week at Lingfield when keeping on in the closing stages after a poor start; should be better for that and leading contender.

22/1
First foal of a dam who was a winning sprinter over 6f, also successful over 5f as a 2yo. Cost €32,000 as a yearling; will need to improve on green debut at Newcastle last week but stable generally does well with two-year-olds.

Fourth foal related to many previous winners including on the AW; stable has fair record with juveniles; difficult to assess and probably best watched unless plenty of stable confidence.

Forecasts

Hot Scoop (9/4), Imperial Fora (5/2), Starseed (13/2), Branston Lion (7/1), Illustrator (17/2), Choritzo (14/1), Golden Claim (16/1), Obtuse (22/1), Go Oscar Go (80/1)

Verdict

BRANSTON LION looks to have the right credentials to get off the mark first time up. The colt is related to plenty of winners including on the AW and his trainer is already among the winners: His draw should be an advantage too. Although not having much chance with the impressive winner Hot Scoop showed he had a reasonable amount of ability when finishing runner-up on his only start despite problems at the start. Given a better start, he should go well. While Imperial Fora did not show too much on his debut recently, he should have learned from that experience and it is encouraging he is turned out again so quickly.
  1. Branston Lion
  2. Hot Scoop
  3. Imperial Fora
