Showed little promise on debut and this looks an even stronger event. Future may lie over further and in handicaps.

125,000 gns half-brother to a 7f winner. Weak in the market for Wolverhampton debut when racing keenly before making late headway. Given a considerate ride that day and one to note if the market signals are more positive this time.

Little to enthuse over in three starts thus far and yard are not really firing. Trainer just 3-53 with three-year-olds at this course.

Kyllachy colt related to winners Suqoor and Royal Caper. Modest effort on debut in a weak Newbury maiden. On a more positive note his dam's progeny are better on quicker conditions than he faced that day and stable have won two of the last five renewals of this race.

€120,000 purchase who showed some promise on his Windsor debut. Ground probably to blame last time and better expected now providing rain stays away. Stable going well with three winners since Friday.
More Than Ready gelding who cost $175,000 as a yearling and the first foal of a dam who was a winning sprinter in the US. Races for a trainer who is 7-22 here with three-year-olds. Certainly the most interesting debutant in the field.

£120,000 purchase who showed some promise in the mud at Newmarket on debut over a mile. Did not quite get home that day and stable's horses have been improving for a run. Yard operating at a 33 percent strike rate in past fortnight and this age group are going particularly well.

Represents a yard that generally do better with older horses and with their jumpers. Never placed to challenge on debut and improvement needed.

Colt cost 95,000 gns as a yearling and was not seen on the track proper as a juvenile. He is a half-brother to several winners, notably Shamwari Lodge, who won five times, including a Group 3 race at the Curragh. Easy to back on debut when he was prominent until fading below the distance. Should improve and is set to carry the owner's first colours.

Invincible Spirit colt, cost 330,000 gns as a yearling and his dam was a Listed winner. Not knocked about on debut when owner's second string and improved on that at Chelmsford when up with the pace until the final furlong. Blinkers fitted to give further assistance but yard's three-year-olds have a modest 3-47 record this year and trainer has a poor 1-35 record at his local track.

35,000 gns son of Poet's Voice who probably needs further than this. Plenty of promise on Chelmsford debut when noted staying on to take fourth and the first two home have added value to the form since. One to note in the market with the turf three-year-olds carrying the torch for the yard this year.

Dam won five races from 1m5f-2m so this trip is undoubtedly on the sharp side. Certainly shaped accordingly on debut.

€8,000 daughter of Lawman who was soon beaten on debut at Chepstow. Needs to have improved considerably in the interim.

La Rav (11/4), Blazed (9/2), Plutonian (6/1), Important Mission (6/1), Saaheq (13/2), Razzmatazz (7/1), Tuscany (8/1), Harbour Force (16/1), Captive (20/1), Mulsanne Chase (25/1), Canford Tor (28/1), Queen Moon (33/1), Allofmelovesallofu (100/1), Millie May (150/1)

Verdict

Captive represents a yard with a good history in this and there are reasons to expect him to improve considerably on a low key debut in the Newbury mud. Willie Haggas has his team going well and his newcomer, Important Mission, is one for the shortlist. Plutonian and Tuscany are in the same ownership but it may be telling that her favoured rider has opted for LA RAV. Luca Cumani has his horses firing on all cylinders now and in particular his three-year-olds. LA RAV contested a Newmarket maiden on his debut. That may prove to be one of the weaker maidens they run there this season. Nevertheless, there was a lot to like about his performance considering his yard's runners have been in need of their initial run of the campaign.
  1. La Rav
  2. Important Mission
  3. Plutonian
