Ten year trends for the Wokingham at Royal Ascot

Ian Ogg analyses the last 10 renewals of the Wokingham Stakes at Royal Ascot and picks out the key statistics.

Only Dandy Boy's win in 2012 has prevented four and five-year-olds from having a clean sweep in the Wokingham Stakes and David Marnane's charge is also the highest rated winner in the last decade having defied a mark of 106.

There are 13 runners aged six or older that advocates of age statistics may be willing to put a line through.

Donjuan Triumphant and Raucous are arguably higher in the weights than ideal although the former has dropped 9lbs since being beaten a little over five lengths in last season's Commonwealth Cup.

The latter was also in action at last season's Royal Ascot, finishing eighth in the Jersey Stakes before reverting to sprinting and taking third in the Group Three Hackwood Stakes and the Stewards' Cup from only 3lbs lower. William Haggas' runners are always to be respected when tried in headgear (Raucous switches to blinkers from a tongue tie and cheekpieces) while he teamed up with Ryan Moore to win this race in 2009.

The lightly raced PROJECTION could leave the form of his reappearance behind while the more exposed Squats runs this track well but looks high enough in the weights and is on a long losing streak.

Normandy Barriere and Edward Lewis are northern raiders on the upgrade and the former has course form to his name and will relish conditions if they remain on the fast side.

Of the older horses, Polybius takes the eye on his first British start for David Simcock having run a relatively close eighth from a similar mark in the 2014 renewal.

Outback Traveller is 4lbs higher than when successful last season but shaped well on his reappearance in the Victoria Cup and also has to enter calculations.

Dandy Boy was returned at 33/1 but of the other seven winners among the last eight, none was longer than 14s and six were 10s or shorter.

The market has done a decent job of sorting the wheat from the chaff and Projection is taken to land this valuable prize.
