US Election 2020: Watch Biden v Trump in Betfair Race to the White House Stakes

In a very close-run race held at Lingfield Park, Surrey, SuperTrump burst out of the gates to take an early lead over BidenHisTime who drew level shortly after.

The equine contenders were locked head-to-head for most of the five-furlong race, with a dramatic, decisive dash to the finish line won by BidenHisTime. A photo finish showed that BidenHisTime was the victor of the historic contest by a short head over SuperTrump.

Off the track, Joe Biden holds a large lead in the odds as the close of polling approaches. Biden is rated at 5/8 (61% implied probability) to take a seat in the Oval Office.

Incumbent President Donald Trump is a long shot at 8/5 (39% implied probability) to retain the Presidency.

The unique race was arranged by Betfair to mark polling day in the 2020 US election, which has become the biggest single betting event in history with £400m forecast to be bet on the next President market on Betfair Exchange - equivalent to 40 Grand Nationals.

Betfair spokesperson Sam Rosbottom said: “In the Betfair Race to the White House Stakes race at Lingfield Park, BidenHisTime just pipped SuperTrump to the post in an absolute thriller.

“Much like the real election, the drama was unmissable. Blonde-maned SuperTrump was fired up for the contest, but the grey BidenHisTime didn’t put a foot wrong and avoided veering too far left to finish strongly with his late run enough to get his head in front when it mattered.”

“The 2020 US election has already broken records to become the biggest single betting event of all time and the public’s fascination is unprecedented. Betting could top £400m, which would eclipse the Grand National several times over.”

“The betting suggests that the human Biden will follow in the footsteps of his equine counterpart, but given the drama in the final furlong in 2016, we can’t rule out another stewards’ enquiry.”
