Free horse racing selections for Sunday April 28

Keith Hamer provides a selection for every race on Sunday, with Scaramanga fancied to cap a memorable weekend for trainer Paul Nicholls.

Scaramanga can continue Paul Nicholls' celebrations in the Byerley Stud 'City Bowl' Handicap at Salisbury.

With the 2018/19 National Hunt season tucked away after this weekend's finale, Nicholls has ensured he stays busy during a brief pause in proceedings by heading the 40 miles or so back east from his Ditcheat base to one of his local Flat tracks.

There, Scaramanga has fine prospects of keeping success in the family for the Nicholls clan - with the trainer's daughter Megan in the saddle.

The four-year-old swapped Suffolk for Somerset during the winter, and has thrived for his change of scenery and vocation with continued improvement over hurdles in recent months.

Scaramanga did not manage to win for James Fanshawe but acquired his Flat mark of 85 with four creditable runs.

They failed to provide exemption from a gelding operation, since which he has registered a maiden hurdle victory and then finished a fine runner-up off a big weight in a valuable juvenile handicap at Ascot late last month.

That good effort, behind a subsequent winner, equates to a hurdles rating of 133.

On that basis, Scaramanga is very much in the ball park of likely favourite Gumball. He receives 5lb, including his jockey's claim, from the latter - who has been deployed successfully on the all-weather by Nicholls' jumps colleague Philip Hobbs.

The Join The Byerley Racing Club Handicap looks highly competitive, but the manner of Pytilia's victory on her Lingfield return last month marked her down as a filly to follow.

Her advantage over a big-priced debutant was narrowed late on - evidence perhaps that Pytilia will improve for her first run in five months.

The runner-up has since upheld the form by running second in a decent Newbury maiden - and Pytilia, who was a close third to a subsequent Group winner on her debut last September, can deliver up in trip again in this handicap grade.

Exclusively has all the right credentials to successfully concede her winner's penalty in the opening Byerley Stud Fillies' Conditions Stakes.

She hails from the likeliest of yards for this type of assignment - as well as the handling of Archie Watson, she has high-profile owners, too.

Exclusively was a convincing and well-backed winner on debut, from a runner-up who got off the mark at her second attempt at long odds on this week.

Kibaar looked a winner in waiting when second to Socialites Red at Pontefract recently, and can get his head in front in the Racing Again On Tuesday 7th May Handicap at Wetherby.

Ruth Carr's seven-year-old did not have the best luck in running that day, although it certainly blew away the cobwebs after a six-month absence.

Lincoln Tale showed a modicum of ability in three starts last term and could be a different proposition after being assessed for the Royal Pigeon Racing Association Handicap.

A rating of 58 looks workable for trainer David O'Meara, and the daughter of Intello should have no trouble stepping up in slightly in trip.

Fanny Logan can open her account in the racingtv.com Fillies' Novice Stakes after going close to winning first time at Yarmouth in October.

The John Gosden-trained daughter of Sea The Stars was beaten just a neck by Mehdaayih and would only need to make normal progress to go one better.
