Our star columnist Richard Fahey goes through his Saturday runners at Beverley, Haydock, Lingfield and Newmarket.
13:25 Beverley - Zap
This probably represents a bit of a drop in class for him but he’s carrying a fair weight. He’s a horse I’d love to see get his head in front again and build a bit of confidence. He ran well when third to Cardsharp at York last time.
14:00 Beverley - Moon Of Love
She’s a filly we like an awful lot. Obviously it’s a huge ask running in a Hilary Needler first-time-out but her work has been very good which is why we’re running here. Let’s see what happens.
14:00 Beverley - Three Coins
She got loose at the start at Redcar last time but has worked well since and did nothing wrong when winning on debut at Ripon. She needs to step up here but could easily do so.
14:10 Newmarket – Gabrial The Wire
I thought he did well to win at Doncaster the other day and maybe Chester doesn’t suit him as well as more conventional tracks looking at his recent efforts. He has to go forward again in this but has no weight on his back so could do so.
14:10 Newmarket – Mr Diamond
He ran alright at Goodwood last time. Maybe he just got stopped at the wrong time of the race and he too is capable of going close in this from the foot of the handicap.
15:15 Beverley - Summer Sands
He ran well on debut at York, finishing third to Bomb Proof, and I think that might have been a warm contest. The run has done him the world of good and while this is much tougher, we’re very happy with our colt right now.
16:10 Haydock – Growl
He was beaten by two short heads and a neck at Ripon on Wednesday and would appreciate any rain ahead of this. He’s handicapped to win races but is just becoming a professional loser at the moment. A win would do him the world of good.
16:20 Beverley - Indomeneo
He’s been disappointing this year and while this represents a drop in grade for him, he doesn’t look ready to win soon on recent evidence. Hopefully he’ll get back on track soon.
16:20 Beverley – Ventura Gold
He’s quite the opposite to his stablemate in that he won at Leicester and Musselburgh on his first two starts this season before finishing third here last time. He needs a lifetime best to get back to winning ways here but everything is right in terms of trip, track and ground.
17:20 Haydock – Zip
I thought he ran okay at York last time and he’s wouldn’t be without a chance here on the forecast ground.
18:15 Lingfield – Robeam
He’s probably the most disappointing horse I’ve trained for some time. He works really well but just can’t win a race. This is pretty low grade stuff and the hope is if we can find a way of getting his head in front he could get on a roll. It needs to happen now though as he’s had plenty of chances.
18:45 Lingfield – Seven For A Pound
He’s quite a free-going sort at home and hand on heart he’s been a little disappointing. However he’s shown us he can gallop and I’m sure he can get back on track somewhere. He just needs to learn to race properly,
19:15 Lingfield – Lexi The One
He’s probably run better than the finishing positions suggest at Chester on his two starts. He almost got knocked over in the last race so you can forget that. He’s very genuine and it wouldn’t be a shock to see him run a half-decent race here.
19:45 Lingfield – Fairy Stories
She trotted up at Nottingham last time and, while it wasn’t a great race, the handicapper will have his say so we are turning her out under a 6lb penalty here. She seems in good form and will be hard to beat if at her best.
