HIGHLANDS LEGACY - 13:58 Newbury (NAP)
The form of his last run at Aintree is working out very well and the unexposed HIGHLANDS LEGACY can give Jonjo and AJ O’Neill a welcome winner. He made a successful start over the larger obstacles at Worcester before chasing home Mambonumberfive at Aintree. The winner that day has gone on to follow-up here when beating Mighty Bandit from a five pounds higher mark and the third home Glengouly landed the Support The Hunt Family Fund December Gold Cup Handicap Chase at the weekend. From a three pounds higher perch the selection has to be of serious interest.
INTERVENTION - 11:35 Lingfield
He’s been out of sorts of late but his handicap mark is in freefall and INTERVENTION is very well treated if reviving. He’s now a pound lower than this last winning rating and his form figures at Lingfield read 225112741. He is the most likely front-runner in the race an is forecast to be given an easy time of it. It might be the key to him sparking back to life.
AUTHOCELTIC - 12:43 Ludlow
He’ taken very well to fences and AUTHOCELTIC is fancied to follow-up his recent victory at Wincanton. Second on his reappearance at Newton Abbot, he improved to beat Star Of Affinity by three-and-and-three-quarter lengths having gone to the front two out. He had plenty in hand there and while up six pounds, he should come forward again for the in-form Jane Williams team.
WESTCOMBE - 16:05 Kempton
He’s a typical Sir Mark Prescott improver and WESTCOMBE looks to have been found the ideal spot to open his account. He’s gone well on both starts in handicaps to date, touched off by Must Believe at Southwell last time. The step up to a mile-and-a-half will suit on Wednesday and he’s the one runner in the field with the scope for significant progress.
Thursday selections
FLASH RASCAL – 17:30 Chelmsford (NAP)
Dr Richard Newland & Jamie Insole can strike with FLASH RASCAL in the Sky Bet Request A Bet Nursery Handicap at Chelmsford on Thursday. The son of Havana Grey has improved since switching to the all-weather and he won well off a 5lb lower mark at this track two starts ago before an unlucky in-running third at Kempton last time. His dam was a 10-furlong winner and this step up to seven can be the catalyst for further improvement under Harry Davies.
MUMBLES – 13:10 Ffos Las
Ffos Las is under threat with an inspection due on ground already heavy but if it gets the green light MUMBLES can go well for Evan Williams in the opener. He loves heavy ground, has dropped to a mark in the 90s and looked back in form with a second at Chepstow last time after a run of incompletions after he lost his way over fences.
SAINT CYR DE PAIL – 14:30 Exeter
Exeter also has an inspection but if it gets the go ahead SAINT CYR DE PAIL can go well for Jane Williams in the Download The PricedUp App Handicap Chase over 2m3f. The unexposed six-year-old ran well when fourth of 16 on his first completed start over fences at Uttoxeter last time and with that run under his belt he could improve again on the softer ground.
DOUBLE TIME – 15:22 Southwell
DOUBLE TIME has been in good form both on turf and the all-weather and he might just get the run of things up front in the Always Gamble Responsibly At BetMGM Handicap over a mile at Southwell. Tim Vaughan’s son of Bated Breath won at Kempton two starts ago and wasn’t disgraced off his new mark at Musselburgh after that, but it’s the return to the all-weather at Southwell that can see him find his best form. Paul Mulrennan can dictate matters from stall two and he’s taken to go well in front on his first go at the track.
