Enable made history with a facile success in the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Qipco Stakes at Ascot - recap the action.
1601: More from Dettori who has been speaking to Hayley Moore on Sky Sports Racing.
"We knew Sovereign was going to make the running and it was a bit of a cat and mouse situation with Ryan (Moore) the first couple of furlongs. He was happy to let me go so I followed the pacemaker and, in fairness, it was a very even gallop.
"I was trying to time it so I didn't hit the front too early. I didn't hear anything so I looked over my shoulder and saw Ryan was in trouble.
" [I'm] Over the moon, bit of a lump in my throat, I'm a bit emotional about it because she's special.
"She's got this amazing presence. She's got massive big ears and she walks with her chest sticking out. We need to really cherish these special horses.
"She's amazing. The hardest bit was for John and the team to get her interested in the morning. On raceday she comes alrive.
"We have a massive dream all of us, to try and win a third Arc."
There's not a great deal to add to that so I'll leave you with those words from Frankie. There'll be more to come in the race report (link at the top of the page) while there will also be an analysis of the big race from Ben Linfoot before we draw stumps for the evening.
1553: That's for another day though with this the moment to celebrate and enjoy a superstar.
This daughter of Nathaniel has now won 12 of her 15 starts, 11 of them in Group One company, which is really quite phenomenal and Dettori has been on board for all bar her debut success.
No wonder he says he'll miss her when she's gone.
1550: The market for the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe is still settling down but it seems certain that Enable will take over as favourite from dual Classic winner Love.
Enable is as short as 9/4 but, at present, there is still some 7/2 about the six-year-old for the October showpiece.
1547: Japan was never out of third and clearly below his best but there's no denying the superiority of the winner who was returned at 4/9 and has received plenty of kisses from her jockey in the winner's enclosure.
She made up the ground on Sovereign very, very easily in the straight and while the form may not be the easiest to rate initially, I don't imagine many people will care!
1544: A few words from Dettori: "I love her so much. Three King Georges, it has never been done before, now we can go for three Arcs.
"I spoke to John at length this morning, I'm not going to break her stride. She is very versatile and she's won easy.
"She's six, she's no spring chicken, to put up a performance like that is great.
"She's so consistent and I love her."
3⃣🪄 Three is the magic number for ENABLE! 🥰

🥇🥇🥇 She's just won her third King George @Ascot
👏 What a remarkable mare, and what a partnership she's formed with Frankie Dettori pic.twitter.com/8yWkaBlwma
1538: Enable cantering, Dettori looks round, now he rides, now she quickens and she's clear.
SHE'S DONE IT WITH EASE.
1538: Into the final turn and little change at the moment, Dettori sits quietly.
1537: Sovereign is about 6 lengths clear as they race uphill, around 5 furlongs to home.
1535: They're off and racing in the 2020 King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Qipco Stakes in heavy rain.
Sovereign leads, Enable second, a little free.
1534: The goggles are coming down and we're almost there......
1533: Enable has her ears pricked as she reaches the start, looking at ease with herself as a little sweat seeps out from underneath her saddle.
Japan, himself, is a little warm between his hind legs but it's humid enough.
1532: The jockeys are in the ring as the rain falls.
Enable is 4/9 with Japan 5/2 and Sovereign 12/1.
Dettori is in the saddle and the rug is off as the runners make their way out onto the course. The tension mounts...
1530: Enable has won the best turned out award despite wearing a rug in the paddock, connections will be hoping that's not where her winning ends!
1525: Japan can be expected to be spot on today but Jason Weaver believes the rain is a negative for the Galileo colt who was behind Enable in both the Arc and the Eclipse, saying the track changes very, very quickly.
Aidan O'Brien expects his charge to have improved for the run at Sandown (his second at the season) bu the same is true of the star mare who was reckoned to be only 80% ready that day.
John Gosden has plenty of respect for probable front-runner Sovereign but everything looks to be in place for Enable to create (a little more) history.
Enable has arrived! @Ascot 😍 pic.twitter.com/rLUsQdBC3r

1519: There's a one-two for our star columnist Richard Fahey at York as Hartswood (5/2 favourite) sees off Tadleel while Greenside stayed on late in the day into third.
Here come the Aidan O'Brien #KingGeorge VI and Queen Elizabeth QIPCO Stakes runners! 🏇 pic.twitter.com/tPaaadDxy5
— Ascot Racecourse (@Ascot) July 25, 2020
1512: Not too long to wait now but we're back at York next for the Sky Bet Club Handicap before heading to Newmarket where I've chanced my arm with a couple of outsiders, Silver Mission and Blue Skyline.
Competitive handicaps the pair of them. At York Orbaan carries top-weight on his third start for O'Meara, he won nicely over course and distance last time and is only 4lbs higher.
1506: That will make Gosden and Dettori feel a little better as Tsar (9/4 favourite) impresses at Ascot, travelling very easily. Dance Fever ran well to finish second but the race didn't really pan out for Evening Sun who was held-up well in rear and never closer than at the line.
The winner appeared to score with plenty in hand though and will see Dettori going into the King George full of confidence.
"Very excited. She's my favourite girl. It's not going to be a penalty kick, fingers crossed," he tells ITV Racing.
“I’m nervous, excited… the world is watching” – an insight into the emotions @FrankieDettori is feeling ahead Enable’s run in the King George… @Ascot pic.twitter.com/80H9GcJsL8
— At The Races (@AtTheRaces) July 25, 2020
1458: Gosden will be hoping for a quickfire double as Tsar goes to post for the mile handicap.
The Kingman colt is up 6lb in the handicap for winning at Yarmouth last time and there should be plenty more to come from a colt who was in amongst some smart sort on last year's debut at Newmarket.
Similar comments apply to a few here, including the Charlton-trained Evening Sun who chased home King Leonidas (trained by Gosden) before winning a novice at odds-on at Newmarket.
Top-weight Johan, tried in Group company at two, is the only other runner the market really wants to know about and it would be no surprise to see the finish fought out by the lightly raced pair at the top of the market.
This is the last race at Ascot before Enable takes centre stage at 1535.
✅ Dettori
— Sporting Life (@SportingLife) July 25, 2020
✅ Gosden
✅ Juddmonte
⏲️ And it's not even Enable time just yet...
Tsar rules!pic.twitter.com/9grgE0bJec
1454: A nice little boost for John Gosden ahead of Enable's big day as Bizzi Lizzi (11/1) makes a winning debut for the Clarehaven handler at Newmarket.
Unfancied in the market but a typically well bred filly who is out of the top class mare Izzi Top, the future could be bright.
1452: An unusual turn of events at Ascot following the International where No Nonsense was deemed a non-runner as Joey Haynes was not on board when his mount left the stalls. I've never seen that before.
1443: Elarqam came under pressure fully three furlongs from home and proved very disappointing as Aspetar (11/1) swept home under Watson to take Group Two honours.
Fox Chairman was second with Lord Glitters in third.
That's a decent 20 minutes work or so for Roger Charlton and his team.
The Juddmonte International could be next for the winner although that would clearly require a big step forward and this form will be knocked with Telecaster, arguably, also disappointing.
✅ Some day for trainer Roger Charlton
— Sporting Life (@SportingLife) July 25, 2020
🥇🥇 Aspetar wins the Sky Bet York Stakes after Blue Mist won the big handicap at Ascot
Elarqam and Telecaster were both disappointing...pic.twitter.com/7eANdL8Vpa
1435: The feature on the York card is the Sky Bet York Stakes, a race won last year by Elarqam who holds very solid claims of retaining the trophy.
Telecaster arguably enjoyed his finest hour (to date) here when winning the Dante Stakes but perhaps the one who could give the jolly the most to do is Aspetar who ran well from off the pace at Sandown.
Trained by Blue Mist's handler, Roger Charlton, the form of that Listed run has already been given a boost and stable jockey Jason Watson, not surprisingly perhaps, lines up here rather than at Ascot.
1429: We lost No Nonsense's jockey in the stalls but at the business end Blue Mist (9/2 favourite) lived up to expectations although Ryan Moore had to be patient in waiting for a gap.
Otherwise it was all pretty straightforward as Cliffs Of Capri chased him home, from Cardsharp, Chiefofchiefs and Eshaasy.
It’s Blue Mist’s day today as he wins the @Moet_UK International Stakes at @Ascot for Ryan Moore and @RogerCharlton! pic.twitter.com/jhGdFMhqEa
— At The Races (@AtTheRaces) July 25, 2020
1421: The Moet & Chandon International Stakes is one of the day's big handicaps and Harry Charlton is a little worried about the ground for market leader Blue Mist.
He's only around 9/2 and 'has a very good chance of being bang there if he handles this ground' according to the assistant trainer who was speaking to ITV Racing.
Simon Holt likes the look of Spanish City who runs this track so well and Value Bet sides with Shelir from the in-form David O'Meara yard.
1419: Star In The Making didn't do an awful lot for Eshaasy (who is up in a few minutes at Ascot) while Indie Angel was a never nearer third behind Pretty In Grey who was winning for the third time this season and fourth in a row.
1413: Another fillies' handicap up next at Newmarket, C&D winner Indie Angel is the 2/1 favourite and faces six rivals but keep a close eye on Star In The Making who ran well behind leading Ascot fancy Eshaasy last time.
Top-weight Pure Beauty finished one spot behind Award Scheme last time, a run that looks that little bit better now!
👑 Her Majesty The Queen has a winner @yorkracecourse
— Sporting Life (@SportingLife) July 25, 2020
🏆 Award Scheme does it oh so impressively under Danny Tudhope
🆙 She looks a filly on the up for Yorkshire-born William Haggas...pic.twitter.com/XK4IwvAioJ
1409: The money spoke volumes as Award Scheme (11/8 favourite) dots up at York to bring up a double for Danny Tudhope.
Always at the head of affairs, she quickly put daylight between herself and the field when asked to go and win her race. Black Lotus chased the winner home at a respectful distance. The obvious step up to black type races is imminent.
1403: There's a Value Bet selection coming up at York in the fillies' handicap. I liked Freyja's attitude as a juvenile and would be hopeful of a decent showing but this may be too competitive for her return.
Golden Hind is a half-sister to the top class Amazing Maria but the one for the money is Award Scheme and it's well known that her trainer, William Haggas, loves to saddle a winner on the Knavesmire. They're at the start.
1355: Richard Hannon's day gets better and better as Chindit (15/2) impresses in defeating Cobh. Naval Crown travelled strongly but was readily put in his place as he drifted slightly left-handed when asked to pick up.
That was pretty impressive from the Doncaster maiden winner who brings up a double on the cards for jockey Pat Dobbs who "didn't think he'd pick up that well" but declared himself "very, very impressed".
Quotes of 25/1 for the 2000 Guineas are being bandied about for both Chindit and Newmarket winner Dhahabi.
📸 No need for a photo here as Chindit does it a good deal easier than that
— Sporting Life (@SportingLife) July 25, 2020
💯 He's now two-from-two and the Hannon juveniles are flyingpic.twitter.com/pH344UC7El
1348: Interesting contest coming up with Royal Ascot form represented by Saeiqa (third in the Coventry), Saint Lawrence finished fourth in the Superlative Stakes at Newmarket while Twaasol made it two from two when winning the Woodcote Stakes at Epsom.
Toronado and Kodi Bear are two of the better recent winners, could there be a potential star in this line-up? Not too long until we find out.
1344: Dhahabi (15/8 favourite) was pretty inexperienced but still good enough to get the job done. Interesting fare with Dinoo shaping really encouragingly while there was also a hint of promise from Diamond And Gold.
It will be interesting to see what Charlie Appleby has in mind for the winner and how he compares to Naval Crown who heads the market for the Listed Pat Eddery Stakes which is up next at Ascot.

✅ Half-brother to Golden Horn
✅ Winning start!
Dhahabi is certainly the part on paper and does the business on debut for Charlie Appleby and @the_doyler at @NewmarketRace pic.twitter.com/PWwFrQjFUG
1339: Few worries for those who took the short odds about Prompting who returned the 7/4 favourite.
Over to Newmarket where most eyes will be on the debut of the excitingly bred and expensively purchased Dhahabi but it's New Mandate who is the market leader.
Godolphin won this race last year with the smart Military March and that one's trainer, Saeed bin Suroor, runs the once-raced Wild Lion whose run at Yarmouth is beginning to work out.
1334: This sort of thing (below) could either spawn a caption competition or give a few employees ideas!
The team are mucking in for our 'behind closed doors' raceday, Chris' 'day job' is Head of Finance. pic.twitter.com/hIFh5YNaHl
— York Racecourse (@yorkracecourse) July 25, 2020
1332: Slight delay at York with the farrier busy at the start.
Prompting remains a very strong favourite on his second start for David O'Meara. The bigger the field, the shorter the favourite, the bigger the certainty? I'm sure there's some such nonsense as that but he's 7/4 in this 17 strong contest.
1322: An eyecatching run from Snow Lantern but it's Zabeel Queen (in the colours of last year's winner) who shows some zip close home. Isle of May attempted to make all and deserves some credit for staying on after seeing off a strong challenge from Renaissance Rose. Further back, I liked the run of Light Refrain who I'd hope could take a big step forward from this initial effort.
🌪️ Very nice debut win for Frankel filly Zabeel Queen @Ascot for @varianstable pic.twitter.com/lSPSIEzw6Y
— Sporting Life (@SportingLife) July 25, 2020
1317: While they're pottering around behind the stalls, here's a chance to see Rossa Ryan's uncomfortable time at Newmarket.
Theotherside gets back to winning ways and justifies favouritism to win the Stetchworth & Middle Park Studs Ltd Handicap in the hands of @ThoreHammer for @rhannonracing 👏 👏 pic.twitter.com/9cdpFptuEk
— Newmarket Racecourse (@NewmarketRace) July 25, 2020
1316: There's a little each-way money for Zabeel Queen who has shortened up to 11/2 from 13/2 but it's double figure odds bar the top five.
Everything has gone down to post quietly enough which is encouraging for an inexperienced field, only the favourite has had a race and is solid in the market to put that experience to good use.
1312: In 2019 Hannon won the upcoming Ascot novice with this season's 1000 Guineas second Cloak Of Spirits. He's represented by a daughter of his 1000 Guineas winner, Sky Lantern, but Snow Lantern is relatively unfancied in a market that favours Isle Of May who bids to get an early success on the board for John Gosden and Frankie Dettori.
1308: It's another winner for Richard Hannon as Theotherside (9/4 joint-favourite) takes the spoils from Will To Win who picked up well on the rising ground.
An uncomfortable minute or so for Rossa Ryan whose saddle slipped (it appeared) on Mr Kiki, perhaps all those pre-race antics took a toll.
1305: The Acomb Stakes at York has been mentioned as a possible target for 'highly rated' Ascot winner Mohawk King who is expected to improve from his debut.
1301: Value Bet followers will have fond memories of Progressive Rating who bids to follow up his recent course and distance success from a 7lb higher mark at five past the hour.
His chance has been improved by the absence of market rival Exceptional as well as Broughtons Gold; nine face the starter.
Mr Kiki has reportedly been playing up ahead of his second start for Ralph Beckett.
1259: Silvestre de Sousa will probably forgive Sampers Seven (8/1) for making him walk a little way to the start as she makes all to bring up a double for her rider.

1255: He's been usurped at the head of the betting by the speedy Clareyblue whose sole success came on the all-weather and was tried in blinkers last time over course and distance. The headgear has been retained. The seven strong field are beginning to load.
1252: On the way to post at York for another five furlong handicap where Silvestre de Sousa is jogging down to the start alongside his intended mount Sampers Seven.
He's got a leg back into the saddle at the furlong marker so hopefully we may still get off on time.
Chairmanic, who drops back in trip, is the market leader for Brian Meehan and Jim Crowley who wears the famous Sangster colours.
1244: A fairly dramatic race with Hamoudi going wrong early on while there was some interference as the race developed. The skirmishing affected the winner Mohawk King (6/1) who did well to bely his inexperience and put his head in front.
It's another one for the Hannons as that remarkable run goes on.
In the race won by Mums Tipple last year, @rhannonracing strikes with 250,000 gns Siyouni colt Mohawk King, winning the @Ascot opener under Pat Dobbs... pic.twitter.com/j7CyQBY1f1
— At The Races (@AtTheRaces) July 25, 2020
1237: Over to Ascot where Richard Hannon saddles two, Mohawk King and Shanghai Rock, in an attempt to maintain the stable's remarkable record in this six furlong maiden. The yard has taken the race five times in seven years.
Neither of that pair are challenging at the top of the market where it's hard to separate the top three.
Alex Hammond describes Inveigle (Ryan Moore / Michael Bell) as a 'gorgeous type' but it's the once raced Mayaas who heads the betting at present. He made his debut on heavy ground so faces remarkably different conditions.
1232: The front runners did dominate but it was Blue De Vega (5/1) who got the verdict from the judge.
A great weekend of racing coming up 🏇

We're paying Money Back as Cash in the 13:50 at @Ascot 🤑
Here's @skysportsAlexH with her 'one to watch' 👀
1228: A typically competitive 5 furlong handicap gets us underway and Chris Wall, who has a few live chances around the country, saddles favourite Han Solo Berger who could, potentially, get the run of the race from the front.
Apparently thunderstorms are set to hit the track at around 1500.
1224: We're off and racing and Gear Up (12/1) takes the opener for Mark Johnston and Silvestre de Sousa. Off to Newmarket next where two of the team's three best bets run later on the card.
1221: He's flip-flopped with Farhan who came close to landing a gamble on debut at Wolverhampton and his supporters are back for more.
1219: We are almost underway at York where the Sky Bet York Stakes is the feature but we start with the Sky Bet First Race Special Every Saturday Novice Median Auction Stakes where the morning line favourite Final Voyage is proving uneasy in the market.
1209: There's a lot of yak about how the King George will pan out tactically but John Gosden is happy to put his faith in Frankie Dettori - victory would see him draw alongside Lester Piggott on seven King George wins - who has enjoyed many of his best moments at Ascot.
Ben Linfoot has taken an in-depth look at how the race might evolve and you can read his take here.
1152: Flying a little lower under the radar than the King George is the International Stakes at 1425 and there's been good support for Eshaasy against Blue Mist (and the other 18 runners).
If the bottom weight does win it would finish the week off on a cracking note for apprentice George Rooke who has been in the headlines for the wrong reasons having failed to notify the BHA that he had ridden three winners in Jersey (he didn't know he had to) which could see seven of his winners disqualified.
Surely no one would begrudge him victory here?
An unprecedented third King George VI and Queen Elizabeth QIPCO Stakes is on the cards.

History awaits… 🙌#KingGeorge pic.twitter.com/SfjnCwEAQS
1121: Not forgetting this afternoon's meeting at Gowran Park and Fran Berry has three selections on the card.
1114: There's action away from Ascot and York with Newmarket staging what promises to be a typically informative card. Arguably the most interesting runner is Charlie Appleby's debutant Dhahabi who is a Frankel colt and half-brother to Golden Horn. Not surprisingly he went for 3.1 million guineas.
No pressure there then!

1056: Time for some market movers. Click on the image below for Sky Bet's latest offers and movers.
Paddy Power's Paul Binfield has said: "Japan is proving quite popular to topple ‘Queen of Newmarket’ Enable in the King George and you can see why as although the former had the benefit of a previous run in the Eclipse, he was only a wafer-thin head adrift of her."
Here are their movers from Ascot and York which includes Value Bet selection Black Lotus:
Ascot
150 Naval Crown 100/30 from 7/2
225 Eshaasy 13/2 from 15/2
300 Johan 4/1 from 9/2
335 Japan 5/2 from 11/4
410 Mankayan 6/1 from 7/1
York
205 Black Lotus 9/2 from 5/1
240 Elarqam 85/40 from 9/4
315 Tadleel 7/1 from 8/1
350 Normandy Barriere 9/1 from 11/1
1030: Good morning and welcome to the live racing blog. A little early news from Ascot where it has been dry since last Sunday but there are showers, light at first, forecast throughout the day. Chris Stickels, Clerk of the Course, said: "We have only put on as much water that we have lost in evapotranspiration and it will be fast ground today if we don't get any rain before racing.
"I will probably be changing the going description to Good to Firm before racing if it does not rain. It has been dry and breezy since last Sunday and we are forecast another breezy day today. We have a good card with high-quality racing, and we are pleased to be here."
You'll all know that Anthony Van Dyck is out of the big race by now and you can also scrub Royal Musketeer and Tacitus from the opener which, incidentally, Richard Hannon has won four times in the last five years with smart juvenile Mums Tipple successful 12 months ago.
