Trainer Ben Pauling bags Southwell treble

Ben Pauling was the trainer to follow at Southwell as the Gloucestershire handler chalked up a treble through Two Swallows, Boreham Bill and Global Citizen.

Though Pauling's stables at Bourton-on-the-Water are just 17 miles from Cheltenham, none of the trio will go to the Festival next month, but he is eyeing Aintree in April for Boreham Bill and Global Citizen.

"I'm not going to Cheltenham with either of them. Both of them might be well suited by a trip to Aintree," said Pauling.

"They might look to follow up with a penalty in the meantime."

Boreham Bill (15/8) made all the running in the hands of Daryl Jacob to take the Free Casino Offers At freebetting.co.uk Maiden Hurdle by two lengths from Monbeg Oscar.

"Boreham Bill has always been a good horse," said Pauling.

"He was beaten at Newbury by what has turned out to be a very smart horse (Santini).

"Then he jumped badly left at Huntingdon which lost him the race on Boxing Day, so it was good for him to get his season back on course."

Jacob was also aboard Global Citizen (4/9 favourite), who was always prominent and led two out on his way to scoring by eight lengths from Euxton Lane in the freebetting.co.uk Supporters Of UK Horse Racing Novices' Hurdle on his first start since moving to Pauling from Jonjo O'Neill's yard.

Pauling said: "He was very impressive and showed a very nice turn of foot. I'm not sure the race was brilliant, but he could only do what he did and get our first winner for the Megsons (owners)."

Two Swallows (10/11 favourite) got the ball rolling for the Pauling team as he held Get On The Yager by two and a half lengths in the Free Betting Offers At freebetting.co.uk Novices' Chase under Nico de Boinville.

"It was great for Two Swallows to get her head back in front," he said.

"She's a lovely little mare. She's not the biggest. Nico gave her a great ride and he gets on with her very well.

"It was a funny race as they all kept jumping right, they were just following the leader.

"She might have a go back over hurdles. We'll see where we go now, but she's a wonderful horse to train and very gutsy."
