Marco Botti's Dylan Mouth defied the burden of top weight to run out a clear-cut winner of the bet365 Old Newton Cup under Harry Bentley.
The 25/1 outsider was winning for the first time since scoring on his first run for his current trainer in an Italian Group Two race last May and did so in fine style, beating the prominently-ridden Soldier In Action by two and a quarter lengths.
Sir Michael Stoute's 9/2 market leader Shraaoh was another length and a quarter back in third with Blakeney Point coming home well after suffering trouble in running up the straight to take fourth at long odds.
"He is a proper horse. He is rated 104 for a reason, but off top weight it was always a bit of a worry," said Bentley.
"I was a bit further back than I wanted to be, but he's done it well. They went a decent gallop up front which suited us and I got a good run through. It all went well."
Trainer Mark Johnston's wife, Deirdre, responsible for Soldier In Action, said: "We've had four seconds in a row for Alan (Spence, owner) now.
"He was carrying the same weight as the winner and when he was headed I thought he'd be swallowed up, but he kept on. He's so genuine, so we're delighted."

Report & reaction
Magical Memory got up in the shadow of the post to get the better of market rival Kachy in the bet365 Conditions Stakes.
Tom Dascombe's Kachy was a little wayward in the early stages and tanked his way over towards the far rail under Richard Kingscote, while the Andrea Atzeni-ridden Magical Memory stayed closer to the main group by the stands rail.
Kachy kept pouring it on as he led by a clear margin but it was clear approaching the furlong marker that the Charlie Hills-trained winner was just beginning to hit top gear and as Kachy's stride shortened in the dying strides, Magical Memory swooped to claim the victory by a short-head.
Pipers Note (5/1) was back in third.
"We found nothing wrong after his poor run at Royal Ascot. He worked well this week and it's good to see him back," said Sam Hoskins, racing manager for owners Kennet Valley Thoroughbreds.
"It's not impossible he'll go to Newmarket for the July Cup now. He has got other options, but we'll see what Charlie says. I wouldn't rule it out."

Report & reaction
John Gosden's lightly-raced Zenon came from the clouds to win the opening contest and initiate doubles for the trainer and jockey Robert Tart.
Making his handicap debut from an opening mark of 87 on the back of a Chepstow maiden victory over a mile and a half, the son of Galileo was initially caught flat-footed when the tempo began to increase and he was still in last place, some way off the rest of the pack, with just over three furlongs to travel.
But the step up to one mile and six furlongs clearly played to his strengths as the well-backed 7/2 chance picked up stylishly when Tart got serious with him coming to the two-furlong marker.
He powered between rivals to lay down a challenge and reeled in Mark Johnston's Dominating half a furlong from the finish before staying well to score from that rival by a length and a half.
Andrew Balding's Look My Way was a further length back in third, while the William Haggas-trained 11/4 favourite Humble Hero had to settle for fourth under Pat Cosgrave.
The successful rider said: "He stumbled at the start and he switched leads for a while but once he got balanced he did it well. It surprised me how well he did it as he's quite a big, top-heavy horse.
"He's got a beautiful stride, the ground on top is just on the easy side today and that has helped him out a lot. At this stage that might be as far as he wants to go."
"He had to get into his stride again and he finished the race off very well," added Gosden's travelling head lad Tony Proctor.
"We ran him once as a two-year-old and Frankie (Dettori) loved him and he's just progressed."
Jamie Spencer drove Hart Stopper (4/1) to a head success from Scofflaw in the six-furlong handicap.
"Jamie has won on her before and he gets on well with her," said trainer Michael Bell's representative, Gill Dawman.
Apprentice Charlie Bennett got Excellent Sounds (9/1) home in the seven-furlong fillies' handicap to complete an across-the-card double for trainer Hughie Morrison following the success of Nearly Caught at Sandown.
"She came back to winning form at Salisbury last time and has come on again," said Bennett.
Across Dubai (15/8 favourite) won by a tidy length in the hands of Pat Cosgrave from long-time leader Carigrad in the extended 10-furlong handicap and could be a nice prospect for the William Haggas stable.
"He won his maiden nicely last year and we were disappointed at Yarmouth when he got beaten, but he was more settled today and was more on the ball," said Haggas' wife and assistant, Maureen.
"I think William will go along slowly with him. He was still a bit shouty today."
