Man On The Spot best bets for Happy Valley on Wednesday

Check out our race-by-race verdicts and nap selection for Wednesday's meeting at Happy Valley.

11.45

Virtus Star is still a maiden after 15 starts and though closing over the track and trip last time he found the wide berth too much to overcome and is again on the outside. Galaxy Racer, who was a couple of lengths behind, looks held but Joao Moreira, who rode Break Record to victory here last month, rides Caspar Fownes' charge so his decision is greatly respected. Charitydream has gradually dropped to a winnable mark and has the inside berth but a chance is taken with NITRO EXPRESS, who is on a very long losing run but has dropped into this lowly grade for the first time ever on his 39th start.

12.15

Antoine Hamelin had his first HK rides at Sha Tin on Sunday and completed a double so today's mount All Wongchoy, who should be reaching his peak after six runs including a victory here in October, is on the shortlist. Zac Purton takes over on COMPASSION SPIRIT for the first time and his mount can take this after three runs at a similar level. He was going on at the finish at Sha Tin three weeks ago and this looks slightly less daunting. Yee Cheong Pegasus arrives in fine form and finished just in front of the selection last time but he's much more experienced and doesn't have the same scope. Monkey Jewellery is taking a definite drop in class and Moreira has been on board for his two career victories so he's another for the shortlist.

12.45

TUNG WAH GLORY signalled an imminent victory when close-up here in February and duly obliged with the minimum of fuss at Sha Tin last month. Purton rode him for the first time that day and keeps faith so a double looks on the cards. Courageous Dragon was a couple of lengths behind but is entitled to get closer under the revised terms, especially with his rider in blistering form. Methane shot up the weights after his course and distance victory but has continued to perform with credit while the maiden Triumphant Horse has been given a chance by the handicapper and has Moreira on board though he has little in hand of Bulb Elite on latest running.

Happy Good Days is in cracking form and though up 6lb for his latest course and distance victory will take plenty of beating. He holds The Runner on earlier form but Shanghai Master has dropped 12lb in the ratings since October and ran much better here last time as did Victory Mastery, who finished close up from this mark last time. OVERSUBSCRIBED is a bit better than his form figures suggest and has been staying on over 5f in recent races. He was receiving 1lb from Happy Good Guys when beaten a couple of lengths in January and is 15lb better off here so looks a fair each-way alternative.

1.45

Magic Supreme drops into this lower grade for the first time since arriving from Australia and is 12lb lower than his debut. Super Lucky wasn't winning out of turn here last month and looks certain to get competitive though a 5lb rise and wide draw makes this more difficult. Exceptional Desire had been going well before scoring last month though he's 6lb higher and this looks a tougher race. The maiden California Red was a major disappointment when last seen in February but he's capable of much better and should get into contention. Moreira was on board last time and jumps ship here in favour of SUPER WINNER (NAP), who has shown very good pace in his last two starts over 7f. He arrives on the back of an impressive trial and can finally get off the mark. The Abraxas is 0-20 and his recent short-head defeat came in lower grade.

2.15

Shining Gem is 11lb higher than when scoring at Sha Tin in December and is drawn wide. Shouson has won three races in this grade since January though he's up 9lb for his latest success which could halt his progress. He had Very Rich Man over 2 lengths behind last time but the runner-up should get closer on the revised terms. Charizard gets the inside berth but has been looking a couple of pounds high in recent races while Beauty Spark appears to enjoy finishing third and Purton gets off him to ride Shouson. Victory In Hand went up 8lb for completing a double and hasn't quite been able to cope so this can go to CALIFORNIADEEPSHOT. A winner in Australia and on his debut here in January. he's been a disappointing favourite the last twice but hasn't been beaten far and Moreira gets on board for the first time.

2.45

This looks very competitive. Classic Warrior, a dual winner in Ireland, has done most of his racing at Sha Tin and showed good speed when dropping into this class there last time. Best Alliance gets in with a feather weight despite a comfortable victory last time but takes a step-up in grade. Alpha Hedge is another going up in class after his recent success though he wasn't beaten far in this grade earlier. JOLLY HONOUR had run two fine races before Purton rode him to victory last month. He's up 6lb but gets the rail and can go in again. Sunshine Warrior had Heavenly Thought just under a length behind when they finished 1-2 here last month but the runner-up is 5lb better off and can turn the tables.

3.15

Seven of this field are course and distance winners here. Meridian Genius is a two-times track winner and was only beaten a short-head last time though is up 3lb and 10lb higher than his last winning mark. Winning Method bounced back to form with a smooth victory last month and should be in the firing-line and though Shamport is up in class and the ratings he's had a bit in hand for his two recent victories. ISLAND SHINE ran his best race to date in first-time blinkers last month and providing they have the same effect he can gain his opening victory despite a wide berth. Confucius Day is very consistent in lower grade though has never won while Fantastic Feeling might just lack an edge having not run since November though he'll soon be winning.

3.50

The main race on the card. Righteous Doctrine is on a hat-trick and had a ton in hand when completing a double last week though a 9lb rise and better grade makes this much tougher. Moreira has ridden him the last twice and gets off to ride Enrichment, who is 1-25 but has been narrowly beaten the last twice at Sha Tin and looks certain to get into contention. HELENE CHARISMA scored at this level here in September and has continued in fine form, just finding 1m2f too far at Sha Tin last week. He could just be good enough to see off Dances With Dragon, a winner in slightly lower class here before a decent effort at Sha Tin. Reliable Team, who won four of his first six races, continues to run well and could run into a place at fair odds.
