4.25 Qatar Prix de la Foret (Group 1)

Full result

1. MARANOA CHARLIE 5/1
2. Zarigana 2/1 favourite
3. Ten Bob Tony 22/1

Winning reaction

Christopher Head: "So good. He is definitely the best horse I ever trained, I'm telling you. This one, he has something else, he is incredible. He has been dealing with a strategy and rhythm throughout his two year old season and he's coming back at three, he's confirming that he's definitely something that could be one of the best stallions around; he is of a very good value today so I'm very happy. I want to thank everybody that's been around this horse because they have done a very good job with him and I'm happy to win today on this weekend of the Arc and thanks to Mr Bond and Peter Maher. He can go in every ground, between good ground and soft ground is going to be okay. I need to talk with my 'new lads' now and see what they want to do but of course they are talking of putting him as a stallion so it could be the end of the road but what a road, it was insane and I loved every inch of it."

VERDICT

Impressed by level of fitness of Zarigana; Maranoa Charlie and Topgear appeal.

16 Godspeed - athletic type, in fair order.

15 Exactly - another consistent presentation, looks well, probably one of the better O’Briens over the weekend.

13 Exxtra - nicely on toes, small and together, good level of fitness.

10 More Thunder - has been fairly consistent across the year and looks so again, wears red hood - doesn’t always, and not required.

9 Zerostress (see below also x 2) - very fit, got on his toes since being mounted and will need to be kept together.

8 Geography - caught the eye earlier in the year and looks well again, big rangy type.

11 Ten Bob Tony - striking in the paddock with his markings, beginning to get a little on his toes but nothing. To be concerned about.

9 Zerostress (see below also) - larger type, walks and moves well, fine.

7 Witness Stand- looks in good order, well muscled, fine.

3 Devil's Point - a little plain compared to some of these, has got warm.

14 Zarigana - would have struggled to get her fitter for today, she looks exceptionally lean and sharp, has to be a positive.

6 Topgear - similar to Sajir in physicality, compact and together, high definition.

5 Zoum Zoum - rangy sort who uses his body well in the walk, likeable.

2 King's Gamble - tends to present well and does so again, walking out with a good level of calm.

12 Maranoa Charlie - impressed by him at York and stands out again, solid and muscular.

9 Zerostress - no fitness concerns but beginning to go in the coat a touch, fine.

4 Sajir - impressed by him at Newmarket, a solid wall of muscley colt, looks similar again.

1 Roshvar - tall and angular, wears red hood and having a good look but calm.

1. BARNAVARA 8/1
2. See The Fire 11/4 joint-favourite
3. One Look 12/1

Winning reaction

Shane Foley: "Hotazhell ran in the Arc and he ran okay but this was always my main ride today, I was looking forward to riding her and she's improved all year and I think she's a very good filly and she showed that today. She wears her heart on her sleeve, she does it the hard way but she was good. I've been saying it all year that she's very, very good and she's only just filling her frame; she was that size as a two-year-old, she's a big girl and I think she's really maturing now and she's learning how to relax and race. That's always the question [whether she will get 12 furlongs]. I think at that trip she's good at the moment but because of her running style it might just be a bit harder going a mile and a half, that's a good trip for her at the moment."

Wemighttakedlongway has really caught the eye, Tamfana fittest she’s been all season. Best pair.

12 Nicoreni - leggy and athletic, not big through the body, more of a slim type, fit.

10 Merveilleux Lapin - tiny filly, dwarfed by a lot of these, quite tense.

7 Barnavara - impressive individual, she’s almost still raw and unfurnished, like she’s going to fill into her frame over the next year still - useful prospect for future.

6 One Look - another delicate filly, not a lot of her but she’s well muscled and taking preliminaries well.

5 See The Fire - always tends to present well. Definitely seen her look better, but she isn’t a negative, just worth noting.

2 Grand Stars - small compared to some of these, almost delicate but no question marks about fitness.

9 January - filled out and grown physically in last few months, has something about her, fair level of fitness.

3 Tamfana - a different filly to who we saw earlier in the year, tightened up and hasn’t got overly warm, which she can tend to.

8 Wemighttakedlongway - catches the eye, has plenty of muscle and size, not a small filly, high level of fitness.

4 Start of Day - getting slightly warm under the belly, good level of fitness, no major concerns.

1 Royal Dress - two handlers, plenty of size about her, full bodied and strong.

11 Qilin Queen - always one to present well and she do so again, possibly better than last time. Big striding filly with a touch of class about her.

1. DARYZ 12/1
2. Minnie Hauk 9/4 favourite
3. Sosie 16/1

Winning reaction

Francis-Henri Graffard: "That was a great horse race to watch. We had a perfect trip around, everything worked according to plan and then the spirit of the horse at the end....it worked and it was just fantastic to watch and I'm so happy. As I said to Princess Zahra when we planned to go to York, we're not going to win but we will gain a lot of experience and I think the decision to go to York helped us win today. It is special, very special."

VERDICT

Croix Du Nord and Kalpana get the nod from Longchamp, absolutely knocked out by the Japanese runner and Kalpana looks the best she has all season.

8 Quisiana - one of the better individuals, she has size but very well put together, nothing out of proportion.

16 Alohi Alii - like all the Japanese, high level of fitness, probably the least liked of the 3 but not a poor reflection on him.

18 Gezora - impressed earlier in the year and does so again; lovely relaxed filly, not the biggest but presents well.

13 Cualificar - good level of fitness, fine.

5 Los Angeles - big individual, tends to present sturdy, couldn’t put you off.

17 Minnie Hauk - has been fairly consistent throughout the season, presenting well again, fine.

12 Leffard - doesn’t jump out like some of these, coat starting to go a touch, just okay.

11 Daryz - well balanced, good muscle definition, fine.

15 Croix Du Nord - incredible individual, big, strong, coat is practically reflective, he’s shining so much - all muscle and power.

10 Aventure - not the conformation that would ever jump out in a paddock, lovely and relaxed.

6 Byzantine Dream - so very lean, really tuned up for the day.

3 Arrow Eagle - another one in a sweat, would be a concern.

1 Giavellotto - sweating quite heavily, can present like this but a concern early.

9 Kalpana - looks tuned up, she’s looked a bit short in the paddock all year and presents notably better from earlier in the season.

14 Hotazhell - coping with prelims well, can get jiggly, fine.

4 Sosie - big bull of a colt, sturdy and chesty; looks great.

2 White Birch - catching the eye early, strapping and very fit for frame.

1.50 Prix de l'Abbaye de Longchamp Longines (Group 1)

Full result

1. ASFOORA 9/4 favourite
2. Jawwal 80/1
3. She's Quality 14/1

Winning reaction

Henry Dwyer: "Just surreal really, just surreal. We had a couple of pre-race issues [with her passport] that we had to work through and were within about a minute and a half of not running. I had the driver on a retainer of £200 to get it here in time! We started this whole journey and it was just all about doing new things and racing; life's experiential and racing's experiential and we're trying to experience new things. I've never been racing in France and here we are winning a Group 1 on Arc day. We were confident that it was fresh ground as opposed to chopped out soft ground - sorry, I shouldn't say we were confident, we were hopeful - that she might be okay [on the ground] and it turned out she was."

Monteille - First Instinct - Mgheera - Afjan all make appeal.

8 Rumstar - tends to have similar presentation each time, looks fine for him.

5 Jm Jungle - professional and gets on with the job, always tends to be like the is, couldn’t put you off, looks in good order again.

14 First Instinct - very lean, to the point of light, good shine to coat, a little tense but not getting overwrought.

13 Monteille - another solid, compact together colt, plenty of muscle definition.

3 Ain't Nobody - not a great paddock presentation and never tends to, okay.

17 Asfoora - really stood out when she won the Nunthorpe compared to how she had looked; not geared up in the same way

16 Star of Lady M - walking out well, business like, okay.

12 She's Quality - starting to go a touch in the coat and starting to get a bit tense.

9 Night Raider - tends to appeal in the paddock, not quite caught the eye in same way on last run and same probably applies here.

2 Washington Heights - stocky build, looks fine for him.

18 Sky Majesty - come in a little busy and keen but nothing that would concern.

15 Mgheera - walking out well, upheld coat condition, in great order.

11 Frost At Dawn - always presents the same, never looks overly well but that’s just her, fine.

19 Afjan - looks notably well, not much size but a ball of muscle.

6 Ponntos - distinct look about him, very angular, fine for him.

1 Against The Wind - nice demeanour, coat starting to go a touch but looks well.

1.15 Qatar Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere (Group 1)

Full result

1. PUERTO RICO 3/1
2. Nighttime 5/1
3. Rayif 7/4 favourite

Winning reaction

Aidan O'Brien: "He won very well the last day with Seanie, he's a lovely straightforward horse. Obviously gets the seven very well, handles ease in the ground, big, powerful horse - obviously with a great pedigree - and Christophe gave him a great ride. He was doing everything very good at home, a big team effort. Delighted, really. He took a little bit of time to come, he's big and he's strong and every month went by he got stronger and we saw that the last day when he stepped up to seven and Seanie was over the moon with him at Doncaster. This is his second time back at seven. He's still very green; you can see him there in front. Christophe was a little bit worried about that, even though he hadn't rode him, by watching him the last day he felt that he might be a little bit green up here and he was dead right, he knew it was the second winning post he had to get to. He's like Camille [Pissarro], a big, powerful horse; over the moon. I think it's possible [the Breeders' Cup], it will depend on whatever the lads want to do."

VERDICT

Couldn’t put you off any individual here, Rayif probably best and A Bit Of Spirit handled proceedings better than you’d expect given the atmosphere.

7 Cielo De Roma - likeable type, starting to get a bit excited once jocked up, has some size.

5 Puerto Rico - has a lovely demeanour this colt, takes everything in his stride, looks as well as he did at Doncaster.

4 Time To Turn - long backed and rangy, has a nice attitude and taking things well, nothing to dislike.

3 Campacite - not standing out on fitness compared to some of these, even with some definition, getting quite toey.

9 Imperial Me Cen - compact and together, lacks the height of some of his opponents but well balanced, fine.

2 Vardif - big and solid, very muscular for his frame, another one who will be an exciting three year old.

8 Nighttime - big rangy frame, the type of colt that will really grow into a lovely three year old, for all he’s nice now. Good level of fitness.

1 Rayif - good looking colt, has a bit of presence about him and walks out well, built very uphill.

6 A Bit Of Spirit - behaving remarkably well give the conditions, can get a little hot in the preliminaries but taking things well.

1. DIAMOND NECKLACE 11/10 favourite
2. Green Spirit 9/4
3. Narissa 10/1

Winning reaction

Aidan O'Brien: "Christophe was wanting her to come here. There's a big team of people around her so delighted. A first [Group 1] for St Mark's Basilica makes it very special. She's a filly we were a little bit worried she was a little bit babyish to come here but Christophe was adamant it would suit her. She's a Classic filly, I'd say she'll be very comfortable starting at a mile and she will stay the Oaks trip I would imagine. She's very exciting and a typical St Mark's, every week goes by they're getting better and stronger."

VERDICT

Aylin best, this filly’s physical progression has been notable through the year; Narissa best of the French.

7 Diamond Necklace - lovely stamp, she’s a quality individual as you’d expect. Wasn’t taken by the AOB runners yesterday and she’s probably the best of what we’ve seen over the weekend. Definition, but not tuned up to the minute like some of these.

6 Venosa - not a stand out, still some improving physically to do, quite raw and unfurnished.

3 Clea Chope - another prospect for next year, looks like she’ll grow into her frame more.

8 Green Spirit - compact and together, more of a sprinting type than some of these, fine.

5 Esna - lean and muscular but has been quite fussy and hard to hold.

2 Aylin - looks improved again from the last few times we’ve seen her; a different filly from the one at Goodwood. Muscular, easy mover and professional.

9 Ozone - well muscled and neatly put together, without being too compact. Coat is starting to go, wouldn’t be a concern. Good attitude.

1 Narissa - wears red hood, well managed, fine limbed athletic filly, very fit for the day but profiles as a filly who will be even better as a three year old.

VERDICT

Uthred best.

6 Rashabar - another one who has really appeal at times, compact and muscular; fine.

3 King Of Cities - has caught the eye at stages through the season, doesn’t overly stand out here for all he’s fit and well.

2 Bright Picture - well balanced colt, even muscle distribution, makes a nice picture, couldn’t put you off.

5 Swagman - deep chested and girthed type, no major concerns although probably appealed more earlier in the season.

7 Jenilat Bright - still quite babyish, both physically and mentally. Not much size and wil still progress, even at this stage of the year.

8 Bay City Roller - not the biggest but always catches the eye with his demeanour and walk, which really stretches through despite lack of size.

1 First Look - classic son of Lope De Vega, well balanced and nicely put together, no negatives.

4 Uthred - a good looking colt, professional, walks with purpose and covers the ground. Keen without being overwrought.

1. CONSENT 10/1
2. Santorini Star 4/1
3. Rabbit's Foot 28/1

Winning reaction

William Butler: "She's improved all year. You're always hopeful on her form but she had two to beat who'd beat her before but she's obviously improving and a huge thank you to a longstanding patron, Prince Faisal. Very pleased and it was an easy watch - well they're never easy but it was as easy as it gets. Luke said it all went to plan. We wanted to be handy, we were drawn wide, we'd just get in, try and sit second or third and it worked well. We were always confident with where we were and just praying she'd keep going which she did. That was Prince Faisal, the owner, [on the phone] who has walked his box in Riyadh all day, so he's delighted and Denford Stud, great owner / breeder - although this filly was bought - it's a special day.

"That's above my pay grade [whether she stays in training] but the plan was to run here and train her next year so I would think on the back of today everybody would be keen to stick to that. We're delighted and a huge thanks to all the team at home. It's a lucky place Longchamp."

Latakia and Survie favoured.

8 Indalimos - can’t fault on fitness, hasn’t been an issue in the paddock, some shine to coat, fine.

11 Kiamba - wears red hood and keen to get on with the job, without getting overwrought, fine.

6 Santorini Star - another one we’ve got to know. Never presents overly impressive in the paddock but good as we’ve seen her in last few outings.

5 Shaha - poor coat condition but very fit, particularly over quarters. Others catch the eye more.

9 Bedtime Story - hasn’t really jumped out at any stage in the paddock this season and the same applies again. Neat filly.

4 Bibbiena - nice demeanour, interested in surroundings. Likeable type, fit.

12 Island Hopping - another big filly, not catching the eye for all she’s fine; straightforward, fairly fit.

10 Consent - getting to know her now and she always presents fit and lean. Looks a touch weak compared to some of these.

3 Latakia - impressive stamp, more like a big colt than a filly, plenty of chest and girth - looks well for her frame.

2 Kathina - big, leggy filly with a good level of fitness, walks well, fine.

7 Rabbit's Foot - very lean, almost light behind. Athletic and big walking.

1 Survie - well balanced and neat filly, still got a good level of coat condition, nothing to dislike.

1. RIDARI 17/2
2. Quddwah 11/4
3. Skukuza 8/1

Winning reaction

Mikel Delzangles: "I think it was a mistake to try him on a straight course in Deauville, he didn't relax enough and he's always done very well at Longchamp. They [Ridari and his dam] are very similar, a lot of strong temper but plenty of class. He's a miler but I think next year he should be able to do a mile and a quarter, now that he's more relaxed he should be able to do it. He is [entered in the Arc sale tonight] but I'd love to keep him."

VERDICT

Quddwah favoured, Zabiari to outrun expectations.

6 Alcantor - big strong horse, a classic Fabre on appearance - always have height and are well balanced, not overly heavy. Getting on his toes when jockey mounted but couldn’t put you off.

2 Marhaba Ya Sanafi - likeable stamp, hasn’t got the size of some of these but he’s in fair order.

8 Dreamliner - good level of rib definition, no negatives.

7 Ridari - getting warm and toey, did similar before the Poule d’Essai..

1 Qirat - hasn’t got the same shine/presence as he did before the Sussex, for all he’s fit.

3 Zabiari - wears red hood and getting a touch warm but catches the eye on muscle definition.

5 Skukuza - a little on toes but that tends to be his way, can be a little quirky. In excellent order from a fitness perspective, no negatives.

4 Quddwah - plenty of horse, deep chest and girth, shine to coat, impressing.

7 Ridari - last seen at the Poule d’Essai, compact, bullish colt, doesn’t look in the same order as he did in the spring.

9 Princess Child - not standing out like previous runners from the yard this afternoon, sturdily built and looks she’ll sharpen up for the run.

Full result

1. CAPE ORATOR 5/1
2. Inis Moir 13/2
3. Go Man 66/1

Winning reaction

Hector Crouch: "Had a tough draw in 17, fortunately Soumillon was very positive from my inside and I was hoping he was going to go and lead, we had to make do with a three-wide trip but he settled nicely for me and picked up well. He's done very well, he's been well placed to win two lovely pots and he's a testament to the team at home. I think he's probably better on quick ground, I think soft ground probably blunts his turn of foot. I had to kick quite a long way out here and he really dug deep for me. It's [Futurity Stakes at Doncaster] a possibility, he's had a couple of hard races since Deauville, two trips to France, I'll leave that up to the team but he was in great order today so we'll enjoy that."

Parade ring updates

VERDICT

6-14-15 best trio. Segall catches the eye on fitness, Northern Champion showing improved paddock behaviour and looks well again, Cape Orator is a smart physical, athletic.

4 Winday - more of a compact sort, fair definition.

11 River Card - rangy, fair level of fitness, fine.

13 Isaac Newton - has got warm, but not overly so. Continued to impress physically with good definition over hindquarters, looks like he’ll sharpen up slightly over ribs.

9 Niederbronn - three year old in the making, big impressive physical, a little tense but no major concerns.

1 Evanesco - impressed when seen at Goodwood, not standing o it in the same way for all he’s fit.

16 Inis Mor - getting on toes at points, nice physical stamp, fine.

15 Cape Orator - plenty of leg and walks well as a result; really using his body, good level of fitness.

3 Montague Menace - big solid colt, plenty of chest and girth.

5 Mijas - keen and strong in the parade, getting a little warm as a result, okay.

2 Sirat - business like walker and getting on with things; some definition.

12 Thanos - winter coat starting to come through; compact type, okay.

6 Segall - a little babyish in demeanour but no fitness concerns.

14 Northern Champion - standing out (which he did at Newmarket) - much more professional this time, lean and walking out well.

7 Rimel - rangy athletic type, bit plain in the coat but plenty of leg and good level of fitness.

8 Go Man - having a good look and reluctant to lead round paddock, suspect others will look more race fit.

12.58 Qatar Prix du Cadran (Group 1)

Full result

1. CABALLO DE MAR 7/2
2. Coltrane 5/2 favourite
3. Queenstown 7/2

Winning reaction

George Scott: "He's just a one off. He started in low grade handicaps but the great thing about him is he has a huge heart and he switches off so well, he relaxes, you could pull him up halfway and then re-start him. It all went to plan, he loves to race on the hip of the leader, that's his happy place, and Tom is riding brilliantly; he had a very able deputy [regular jockey Callum Shepherd sidelined] and he said he could have gone round again after the line. It's a very special day for me and my team at home, there are lots of people to thank; we finally got there [a first Group 1 win]. He has his whole future ahead of him at this level, he might not be done for the year, we'll see how he is. There are a couple of dances left potentially. He's such a unique character this horse, durable, he'll be out in the Middle East for Red Seas and World Cup Nights and things like that; he's a lovely horse to have.

"Bay City Roller is a special horse for us. He has a big engine, it's the first time he's going to race on soft ground today and we've been desperate to get him on soft his whole career and this is his first time. Oisin takes the ride so he's got a great pilot and we're looking forward to it; it's a bit of a long wait now."

VERDICT

Like the 7 and 8 - two very different types in terms of obvious quality; Caballo De Mar appeals on fitness, Sacred Spirit impressive physical.

8 Sacred Spirit - more of a quality type than others in here, big solid horse with plenty of chest. Great attitude, taking everything in.

6 Queenstown (see below also) - now very tense and hot, would be a concern.

4 Sunway - can get very tense in the preliminaries but he’s managed well, been kept very calm, good level of fitness.

5 Coltrane - been kept in really excellent condition over his last few runs and looks well again, no issues.

3 Coetzee - big horse, doesn’t overly stand out from a fitness perspective for all he’s run recently, fine.

7 Caballo De Mar - love the attitude, easy going and taking in surroundings in preliminaries, not expending any energy. A little plain compared to some of these but fitness is spot on.

1 Alsakib - wears red hood but very relaxed and easy going, good definition over quarters, likeable. Now getting strong with tv cameras around.

2 Tashkan - getting toey, which he can do and wouldn’t be a concern, very well muscled.

6 Queenstown - can get a little tight in preliminaries and he’s being well managed by the team, tense though neck and back but no fitness concerns.

Full result

1. TENNESSEE STUD 5/4 favourite
2. Emit 7/1

Winning reaction

Stable representative Kevin Blake: "He's just a very good horse, he always has been. Finished third in the Derby, Joseph freshened him up a little bit after the Irish Derby. Prix Niel, a sit and sprint race over a mile and a half on quick ground, it wasn't really his thing but we felt he was ready to go up in trip. If you spend a bit of time with him he's the most lovely, relaxed horse for a colt, he really is, and he always gave the impression of having the temperament and the pedigree and everything to be a stayer.

"Potentially [a Cup horse in 2026]. Could be a Melbourne Cup horse. Could do any of those jobs I think. Impressed with him today; I know he didn't win by far but just the way the race panned out, Dylan felt he was getting quite lonely in the final furlong. Emit ran a smashing race as well. Great to see him run so well so a fantastic result."

VERDICT

Good quality group. The Joseph O’Brien pair are favoured, both make plenty of appeal. Tennessee Stud as good as we’ve ever seen him; Emit has a high level of definition.

5 Enea - tall and muscular sort, free moving in the walk, likeable enough.

1 Surabad - sturdy type, plenty of chest and girth, no major issues.

4 Espoir Avenir - wears red hood and being well managed, with only occasional signs of being toey. Big chested, solid type.

7 Tennessee Stud - looks similar or better to the last few times he’s been sighted. Athletic, loose moving colt, still a real shine to coat.

6 Zingaro - impressive type, two handlers, has a bit of height and scope, fit.

2 Native Irish - Short coupled and compact through the body compared to some of these, for all he has height.

3 Emit - always a type that has presented well and caught the eye; does so again. Well muscled, very defined over the quarters. Keen without being overwrought.
