David O'Meara saddles 1000th winner as a trainer

David O'Meara registered his 1,000th success as a trainer when Betsy Trotter won at Wolverhampton on Saturday evening.

O'Meara, a former National Hunt jockey principally for Tim Easterby, first took out a licence to train in 2010 and made rapid progress.

He notched 100 winners for the first time in the 2013 season and has consistently reached that mark since.

As with most trainers the aim is to always add quality to quantity and O'Meara has done that with the likes of globetrotting star Mondialiste, Group One-winning sprinters G Force and Move In Time and Queen Anne winner Lord Glitters.

Betsy Trotter won the bet365 Fillies' Handicap in the colours of Frank Gillespie with whom O'Meara enjoyed plenty of success with Custom Cut.

O'Meara has also formed a formidable partnership with Danny Tudhope which has seen the jockey break into the upper echelons of his profession.

Other former stable stars for the Upper Helmsley handler include Blue Bajan, Pentitent, Amazing Maria and Louis The Pious.

On reaching the milestone O'Meara took to Twitter and said: "Lovely to have our 1000th winner tonight courtesy of Betsy Trotter for Frank Gillespie! Thanks to everyone for helping us achieve this."
