Tony Martin-trained Laganore took top honours in the Group One Premio Lydia Tesio in Italy

Laganore gave trainer Tony Martin and jockey Colin Keane a first Group One success when landing the Premio Lydia Tesio at Capannelle in Rome.

The five-year-old had finished third in the 10 furlong contest at Cappanelle last year but returned to the continent to go two places better under Colin Keane who is involved in an epic battle with Pat Smullen in the race for the Irish jockeys' championship.

The daughter of Fastnet Rock, a listed winner at Newmarket in 2016, had gained her first Group race success at Gowran Park last month and is arguably in the form of her career.

Laganore finished two lengths clear of A Raving Beauty with Absolute Blast finishing a further five lengths back in third for Archie Watson and Luke Morris.

"Winning my first Group One is the cherry on top of what has been a brilliant season. I rode her at Gowran last time and she did it very well again today. I’m delighted," reported the winning jockey who received due praise from Martin.

"Colin was brilliant, just as he's been all season," Martin told the Racing Post.

"The mare won easy and we’re delighted because she has her Group One win now. But this was Maurice’s [Regan] plan and all of the credit needs to go to him because he'd the foresight to bring her here and it’s paid off.

"We’ll see what we do after this but I’d say it’s likely that she’ll be retired as she looks to be a valuable broodmare.

"I’m very happy for Colin and he’s been riding for me ever since he was a claimer, and I’m very good friends with his father. It’s brilliant, magic, and we're going to enjoy the celebrations."
