Golden Apollo broke a frustrating run of form with victory in the valuable William Hill Ayr Silver Cup.
Tim Easterby's five-year-old has become a standing dish in major sprint handicaps over the past couple of seasons but hadn't tasted success since winning at Ascot in August 2017.
Rated as high as 99 following that triumph on Shergar Cup day, Golden Apollo was capitalising on an 11lb lower mark to score by a neck from Gabrial the Saint (20/1) in the hands of stable jockey David Allan.
Course regular Get Knotted stayed on well for third at 14/1 while fourth went to Show Stealer (12/1) and fifth Flying Pursuit (25/1).
"We thought he would win the Ayr Gold Cup a couple of years ago, but it was off so that was that," Easterby told ITV Racing.
"We were first out of the hat, walked the track, wasted a day. It's taken two years to catch up."
Allan said: "He's been a bit unfortunate. He just needed a strong pace and with this number of runners and the type of race, it's right up his street and it's worked perfect.
"I just switched him off the far rail but he was closing quite easy and I knew I was going to get there, but he was pulling up a bit in front."
