Sporting Life pick out five betting highlights for the week ahead

Every week throughout autumn, Sporting Life will pick out five highlights so you never miss a beat.

Our writers will provide all the key information such as TV channels and kick-off times, plus the latest odds from Sky Bet.

We continue with five sporting highlights for the week ahead.

Rugby World Cup – England v Argentina

When: 0900 BST, Saturday

Where: Tokyo

TV: ITV & ITV 4

Sky Bet odds: England (-14.0) 10/11; Handicap Tie (-14.0) 20/1; Argentina (+14.0) 10/11

This is the only fixture in week two that sees two tier one nations clash and it’s hugely significant. For England this is where it gets real; if they are to win the competition this is the start of having to peak five weeks in a row as they face Los Pumas and France, before a quarter-final against Australia, a likely semi-final against New Zealand then the Final. After blowing what would have been a deserved win over France, Argentina have to win this contest to have any chance of finishing second and reaching the knock-out stages. England have won their last nine meetings with Argentina.

Golf – PGA and European Tour

When: Thursday to Sunday

Where: Las Vegas and Madrid

TV: Sky Sports Golf

Sky Bet odds

It’s a rather low-key week on the PGA Tour but that means the chance to snare a big-priced winner by rolling the dice in Las Vegas.

The Shriners Hospitals for Children Open has a tendency to shock but watch out too for the locals, with Ryan Moore and Kevin Na among those bidding to put local knowledge to use at TPC Summerlin.

On the European Tour, the Open de Espana returns to Madrid and while prize money is relatively low, star quality is high courtesy of home hopes Jon Rahm, Sergio Garcia and Rafa Cabrera Bello.

They’ll be joined in the field by many players desperate for the big week which is required to keep their playing rights for 2020, but most of the focus will be on Rahm, who secured this title a year ago and has quickly established himself as a prolific winner on the European Tour.

With Ryder Cup points up for grabs it’s another important week as the Race To Dubai approaches its final stages – for those towards the bottom of the standings as much as those towards the top.

Horse racing - Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe

When: 1505 BST, Sunday

Where: ParisLongchamp

TV: ITV/Sky Sports Racing

Sky Bet odds

The mighty mare Enable is odds-on favourite for a piece of history in Sunday's Arc de Triomphe at ParisLongchamp.

The pride of Frankie Dettori and John Gosden, Enable has proven herself to be the best middle-distance horse in the world over the past couple of seasons and has already won the Arc twice and became the first ever winner of Europe's showpiece event to follow up in the Breeders' Cup Turf.

No horse has won three Arcs but the five-year-old has looked better than ever this season with top-quality victories at Sandown, Ascot and York, taking her unbeaten record to 12 consecutive wins.

She is 13-14 throughout her amazing career and has plenty in her favour once more as she bids to break new ground in what is widely expected to be her swansong race.

Standing in her way is champion three-three-year French colt Sotsass, and potentially her old foe Magical who bids to win the great race for trainer Aidan O'Brien.

Rugby League - Grand Final play-off semi-final, Wigan v Salford

When: Friday

Where: DW Stadium

TV: Sky Sports

Sky Bet odds

Two teams are 80 minutes away from a Grand Final appearance at Old Trafford. Laying in weight are St Helens who booked their place with a 44-10 thumping of Wigan in the eliminator last week. Their fans let it be known who they hope to face at the Theatre Of Dreams by chanting “Salford” through the closing stages... and might just get their wish.

They’ve been the success story of the season and in Jackson Hastings have the best player in the competition. He’s Wigan bound at the end of the campaign but is looking to bow out on a high and was instrumental in Ian Watson’s men beating Castleford 22-0 to book their place in this clash.

Wigan tumbled into it off the back of their humbling at the hands of their bitter rivals and know they need to improve. They beat Salford 18-12 earlier in the play-offs but there wasn’t much between the side there.

There won’t be again and while the home side’s big-game experience and know-how might get them over the line, the visitors look the bet with the start.

Champions League Football - Tottenham v Bayern Munich

When: 2000 BST, Tuesday

Where: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London

TV: BT Sport

Sky Bet odds: Tottenham 21/10; Draw 13/5; Bayern 23/20

It's Matchday Two in the UEFA Champions League and Tottenham play host to German giants Bayern Munich in what promises to be one of the games of the round on Tuesday evening.

Mauricio Pochettino's stuttering Spurs let a 2-0 lead slip to draw 2-2 with Olympiakos in their Group B opener, since when they've lost to Leicester and crashed out of the Carabao Cup to lowly Colchester.

A win against Southampton on Saturday in the Premier League will have done them some good heading into this big match but Bayern looked good with a 3-0 home win over Red Star in Matchday One and have since recorded back-to-back Bundesliga wins.

They remain unbeaten in six league games this season, with Robert Lewandowski enjoying a hot run of form in front of goal.
