Henri The Second wins at Sandown again

Racing weather and inspection latest news

Latest news of inspections and abandonments as the cold and wet weather continues in Britain and Ireland.

Today's meeting at Fairyhouse has been abandoned.

An early raceday inspection was called on the back of heavy rain in the area and an IHRB update stated: "Following 6mm of rain this morning, the track here at Fairyhouse is unfit for racing and the fixture scheduled for today has been cancelled.

"Unfortunately we have had prolonged periods of rainfall here, the 6mm since our update yesterday afternoon was on top of the 49mm we've had since entries and the ground just could not take any more rain which has left us with no choice but to cancel today's fixture."

An update has also been provided ahead of the meetings coming up at Punchestown and Clonmel this week.

It said: "Following 3mm of rain overnight, @punchestownrace (Wednesday) remains heavy. Light rain today today (3-5mm approx). Dry tomorrow with heavy rain Tuesday night into Wednesday (10-15mm approx). Using inside track first circuit, finishing on main straight.

"Following 18mm of rain over the weekend, parts of the track @ClonmelR (Friday) remain waterlogged and unfit for racing, where raceable the ground is heavy. Possibility of up to 20mm (approx) of rain this week. Situation being monitored."

The jumps action at Lingfield had already been called off, while an early inspection has been called ahead of Sandown's scheduled meeting on Thursday, with areas of both the hurdles and chase tracks waterlogged.

A Monday afternoon check will be staged, with further heavy spells of rain in the forecast.

Sandown officials stated on Sunday: "There will be an inspection tomorrow (Monday February 16) at 13:00, ahead of Royal Artillery Gold Cup Day on Thursday February 19.

"The course remains waterlogged in places, with further rain to come throughout Sunday. We will provide an update after the inspection tomorrow."
