Elegant Escape among 16 horses taken out of Randox Health Grand National

Elegant Escape was one of 16 horses scratched from the Randox Health Grand National at Aintree at the latest forfeit stage.

Colin Tizzard’s charge had been a leading fancy for the race having won the Coral Welsh National at Chepstow and finished sixth in last week’s Magners Cheltenham Gold Cup.

The trainer has also taken Sizing Codelco and Royal Vacation out of the race and the Paul Nicholls pair of Black Corton and Give Me A Copper are also missing.

So are Edwulf, trained by Joseph O'Brien, and American, who trainer Harry Fry confirmed had been retired earlier in the day.

The other scratchings were Traffic Fluide, Total Recall, Master Dee, The Last Samuri, Some Neck, Willie Boy, Ballyhill, Ballydine and Back To The Thatch.

81 horses stood their ground including last year’s winner and ante-post favourite Tiger Roll. The weights continue to be headed by Bristol De Mai and Anibale Fly while owner Trevor Hemmings has two leading contenders in Vintage Clouds and Lake View Lad.
