LAST YEAR’S WINNER: Abandoned
Although he carries more weight than your average Grimthorpe winner, Rocky’s Treasure is given the vote as he ticks plenty of other boxes.
Kim Bailey’s lightly-raced novice actually has the exact same rating (149) as the past two winners, so perhaps a better quality of horse is now coming to the fore in this race. After just six starts over fences, he remains unexposed and is two-from-two at the track, having won a handicap hurdle and a Grade 2 novice chase here.
In addition to the highlighted trends, the selection is a point-to-point winner and five of the past nine winners (including the last three) started life in that sphere.
Both Dingo Dollar and Barney Dwan would be hugely respected on the best of their form, but further down the weights, Brian Boranha looks to have a similar profile to many a recent winner and may be next best.
