VERDICT

Stradivarius and Torcedor dominate the betting, and they also dominate from a trends perspective, too. All eyes will be on John Gosden’s Gold Cup hero, but it could be worth siding with Jessica Harrington’s six-year-old as he ticks all six of our trends. Yeats was the last Gold Cup winner to go on and win the Goodwood Cup in the same season back in 2008, and since then three others have all tried and failed. Colour Vision and Trip To Paris finished 3rd in 2012 and 2015, respectively, whilst Big Orange found Stradivarius too good 12 months ago, highlighting what a tough ask it is to win both races. TORCEDOR was only beaten a length at Ascot, and with the recent rain and 1lb pull in the weights with Stradivarius, both positives, he could emulate Opinion Poll (2011) and Saddler’s Rock (2012) to win this having been beaten in the Gold Cup that season.

Bettrends selection: TORCEDOR (Current Sky Bet odds 4/1)
