BETTRENDS SELECTION: BRELAN D'AS
Two horses stand out from the this week’s key trends, with last year’s runner-up Cepage greatly respected, following a highly encouraging return to action when runner-up to Riders Onthe Storm (late defector here) at Aintree. He boasts solid course form at Cheltenham and with conditions to suit, is very much shortlist material, despite his big-weight.
However, the vote goes to BRELAN D’AS, who finished runner-up in the BetVictor Gold Cup last time and it is worth noting that seven winners of this race since 2004 contested that event (three finished runner-up including Frodon last year). He also hails from the Paul Nicholls stable and the champion trainer has won this race five times in the past 10 years.
One place behind him last month was Warthog and David Pipe’s grey is another for the shortlist.
