Day four report

Home favourite Cameron Smith beat Jordan Zunic in a play-off to claim a dramatic victory at the Australian PGA Championship.

The 24-year-old was in his home state of Queensland at RACV Royal Pines Resort and he delighted the crowds, recovering from a bogey on his 72nd hole to get up and down for par twice during the play-off.

A bogey on the second extra trip up the 18th from Zunic handed Smith victory after the two had done battle throughout an enthralling morning on the Gold Coast.

Smith entered the final round three shots behind fellow Australian Zunic but had caught his playing partner by the 10th and a birdie on the 17th handed him the initiative with one to play.

A miss from five feet on the final green meant extra holes were needed but Smith held his nerve to claim his first professional solo triumph after winning the Zurich Classic of New Orleans alongside Swede Jonas Blixt in May.

A delighted Smith said afterwards: "It was a bit of a grind out there today. Obviously waking up early to get away from this rain that mysteriously hasn't come. Yeah, tough day out there and congrats to Jordan as well, he played well.

"I mean I wasn't really expecting much out of that chip shot there on the play-off hole. Just wanted to get it basically inside Jordan's and ended up hitting a really good shot. Like you said, I had my chance on the 72nd and just misread the putt. Nice to get it done.

"I haven't even had time to process that but it's been a really good year. My goals this year were to win one down here and it's nice to tick that one off.

"It won't change me that much this time. It did last time. I got ahead of myself a little bit when I won last time thinking that it's the easiest game on the planet and I could go out there and win every week. Went and had a little bit of a battle through the middle of the year, didn't really play that great.

"So I think the key is to just keep doing what I'm doing and not really expect too much and not really get ahead of myself."

Australian Adam Bland finished a shot outside the play-off at 17 under, three shots ahead of countrymen David Bransdon and Marc Leishman.

England's Nathan Kimsey carded a closing 65 to finish at 10 under, four shots clear of Sergio Garcia, who ended the year when he won his first major at the Masters with a 74.

Day three report

Jordan Zunic fired a joint-course record round of 64 to take a three-shot lead into the final round of the Australian PGA Championship in Queensland.

The Australian, who is Sky Bet's 11/10 favourite, was in sumptuous form at the RACV Royal Pines Resort and it could have been even better had he not bogeyed the 17th and double bogeyed the last.

Still, thanks to 11 birdies in the first 16 holes he was three shots clear on 17 under, with Cameron Smith on 14 under. Sky Bet offer a Price Boosted 13/2 for Zunic to go on and win by four shots.

Smith carded seven birdies in his 67 while Adam Bland is on 13 under after a 71. It was a poor day for overnight leader Marc Leishman, who went round in a two-over-par 74.

Masters champion Sergio Garcia is on eight under after carding a 70.

Day two report

Marc Leishman hit a best-of-the-week 65 to grab a share of the lead on day two of the Australian PGA Championship in Queensland.

An eagle on the 15th and seven birdies led to a seven under par round for the Australian, who dropped shots on the 12th and 18th, as the Australian joined compatriot Adam Bland on 12 under par.

Bland made seven birdies and one bogey in a second successive round of 66.

Spain's Sergio Garcia, who is looking to cap the best year of his career with a fourth victory of 2017, slid into joint 10th after a double bogey on the ninth and bogies on the 10th and 18th saw him finish on 71, leaving him on six under overall.

Greg Chalmers carded a 66 to lie third on 10 under, with Cameron Smith (67), Jordan Zunic (69) and Rhein Gibson (67) completing an all-Australian top six on nine under.

England's Nathan Kimsey is the best placed British player after a 67 left him tied for 19th at the halfway stage, but former Masters winner Adam Scott missed the cut after a second-round 74.

Day one report

Home players Jordan Zunic and Adam Bland led the way on six under par after the opening round of the Australian PGA Championship.

The pair both went round in 66 to claim a one-shot lead over a group of five players, including Spain's Sergio Garcia, at Royal Pines Resort on the Gold Coast.

Zunic carded six birdies and an eagle alongside two bogeys, with Bland picking up seven birdies, including four in a row from the fifth, and only dropping a shot at the last.

Garcia's round included five birdies and it left him alongside Marc Leishman, Peter Senior, Daniel Nisbet and Michael Wright.

"It was a long round," said Garcia, referring to two suspensions in play due to rain.

"I played pretty solid. I wouldn't say that it was amazing but it was good. The most positive thing for me would be to go a bogey free round, which I didn't realise until we got done.

“I feel like mentally I'm not quite as sharp as I was probably a month ago or so. I guess the year is kind of draining a little bit, but it was nice to play with Scotty (Adam Scott) and with Wade (Ormsby), we had a great time."

England's Paul Maddy was the highest-placed British player in the field in a tie for 27th after an opening 70.

Our 300/1 tip Joachim B. Hansen sits three off the pace along with 175/1 fancy Sean Crocker.

Garcia and Leishman are Sky Bet's 3/1 joint-favourites.
