Manchester United are reportedly considering a move for Zinedine Zidane - should Jose Mourinho depart Old Trafford.
The Portuguese boss has cut a frustrated figure in pre-season after the Red Devils failed to secure his list of top targets.
They have signed Fred, Diogo Dalot and Lee Grant, but Mourinho feels his squad is some way off closing the gap on rivals Manchester City.
Mourinho, who has two years remaining on his current contract, has so far spent pre-season complaining about a number of issues - the transfer window, his team's performances and being unhappy with the attitude of certain players at the club.
The 55-year-old is the favourite to be the next Premier League manager to leave his position, moving in to 4/1 with Sky Bet. Should it materialise, it has been suggested United know their first port of call.
The Sun claims United will first contact Zidane, who is available for free after stepping down as Real Madrid boss at the end of last season.
The Frenchman impressed in his first senior job in management, helping Los Blancos to a La Liga title and three successive Champions League triumphs in two-and-a-half years at the Bernabeu.
