When you are leading the sports day race and know a much faster athlete is closing in on you, the last thing you want to do is to stumble.

Well, Liverpool have well and truly stumbled in the race for the Premier League title with two successive draws. Victory on Wednesday will see Man City return to the top of the table, albeit with a game extra on the board.

The Citizens themselves dropped points last week with a shock defeat at Newcastle, despite taking the lead inside 30 seconds, but Jurgen Klopp's Reds could not capitalise on that and it may be something they live to regret.

Pep Guardiola's men will make the short trip to Merseyside to face Liverpool's big rivals Everton in the only midweek top-flight match.

Some Toffee fans have gone as far as saying they would be happy to see their side lose in order to dent Liverpool's title hopes. Even after a dreadful start to 2019.

Marco Silva's side were knocked out of the FA Cup by Sky Bet Championship side Millwall and have lost five of their last eight in all competitions and sit ninth in the table.

Owner Farhad Moshiri has given the Portuguese boss his backing, saying the former Hull and Watford man is in it for the long-term, and the games do not get much tougher than this. A big performance is needed from the hosts here.

Prediction: Everton 1-3 Manchester City (Sky Bet odds: Price Boosted to 11/1)
Nothing to do with the fact their last two meetings have finished with this scoreline, Man City should rise to the occasion and comfortably see off a side low on confidence. They were excellent on Sunday, bouncing back from defeat at Newcastle to sweep aside Arsenal at the Etihad. With the chance to return to the summit, the Citizens are now experienced Premier League winners who can handle the pressures of the title race.

Best bet: Man City to score 3+ goals at 21/20
A great price considering the visitors' goalscoring capabilities. They have won nine of their last 10 games in all competitions and the Newcastle trip was a mere bump in the road. They have scored three or more goals in four of their last six league matches and they will be well up for this clash.

Goals: Leroy Sane to score anytime at 6/4
With their weekend home match with Chelsea to think about, it would be no surprise to see Guardiola rotate his side and, despite his hat-trick against Arsenal, swap Sergio Aguero for Gabriel Jesus. The former is odds-on to score anytime, the latter just above evens. So another option is a Leroy Sane, an unused substitute on Sunday who could return as part of the rotation. The German forward already has two Premier League goals in 2019 and is a nuisance on that left-hand side, so the 6/4 price on him anytime looks good - but it is best to wait until the teams are released. If you want larger odds, Nicolas Otamendi at 9/1 is one to consider, the Argentinian had an effort on target against Arsenal and is a big threat from set pieces.

Sporting Life RequestABet: Man City to score 3+ goals and Leroy Sane to score anytime at 5/2
