Liverpool legend Phil Thompson previews their huge Champions League game against Bayern Munich and says there's no reason why they cannot challenge for European and domestic glory.
Bayern Munich v Liverpool (2000 GMT, BT Sport 2) - TIPS HERE
Team selection will be interesting in Germany, I don't think they'll make changes up front, it'll be the usual there so the only question marks will be over the midfield.
My midfield would be Fabinho holding in the middle, with Georginio Wijnaldum on the left and Naby Keita on the right, I would think that is the team that Jurgen Klopp will go with and I hope, if needs be, that Xherdan Shaqiri will come into the fold into the last 20 minutes.
As you have seen already, English teams are made of sterner stuff in respect to the rest of the continental teams.
We can make the impossible possible and we have seen that in the history of this competition and that is what Liverpool should be looking at, the likes of what Spurs did in 45 minutes, got battered but came through, Man United with 30 per cent possession and managing to come through.
Dare I say it, what Ajax did to Real Madrid? Now with Man United going through, there is a good chance of the four English teams advancing. Liverpool have a difficult task but if you get that away goal, it rattles the opposition and it certainly took the wind out of the sails of Dortmund and PSG [last week].
Liverpool have that capability. I do expect us to score and then it is down to the defenders to do what they have done so well for us this year.
Are Liverpool better 'concentrating on the Premier League'?
I think we can manage the both of them. We don’t have the FA Cup to look after as well as the Premier League and Champions League. It is nice to have the distraction of the Champions League rather than just the Premier League.
You have the eight games left in the Premier League and if you get through against Bayern there will be up to another five games of the Champions League, so there are not many games until the end of the season - play your best team and want to stay in both competitions.
The league is nearing the end of the season and it's just the last eight of the Champions League so there's no way you should be looking to get out of one competition.
