Norwich City relegated from Premier League after 4-0 thrashing by West Ham at Carrow Road
Norwich have been relegated from the Premier League with three games of the season remaining.
Daniel Farke's side make an immediate return to the Sky Bet Championship, with a 4-0 thrashing to West Ham at Carrow Road confirming their fate on Saturday.
A Michail Antonio quartet proved to be the final nail in the coffin, as David Moyes' side boosted their survival hopes in the process.
The news comes as little surprise, the Canaries now losing all seven of their fixtures since returning from the enforced break. They have won just two league matches in 2020 and a total of five all season.
They sit rock bottom on 21 points and 10 adrift of safety. They face away trips to Chelsea and Man City in their remaining fixtures, with a home game v Burnley sandwiched between.
Despite a 4-1 thrashing to Liverpool on the opening day, Farke's side put in a spirited performance at Anfield and showed plenty of promise in the early stages of the season, beating Newcastle and then just losing out to Chelsea on home soil in a five-goal thriller.
They then made headlines worldwide after shocking reigning champions Man City at Carrow Road, scoring three times in the opening hour against Pep Guardiola's stunned side to seal a 3-2 win.
Top striker Teemu Pukki, key behind their promotion in 2018/19, hit the ground running, firing six goals in his first six appearances in the top flight.
The 30-year-old Finland international has found the back of the net 11 times but the goals dried up and so did Norwich results in the second half of the campaign, Pukki netting twice in January and failing to score since.
Their inability to come from behind has been one downfall - they are the only team in Europe's top five leagues to not gain a single point from a losing position.
Farke has cut a frustrated figure in recent weeks; the German looking like he had long accepted their fate.
It remains to be seen whether he will stay put in East Anglia, but you would expect so as they look to regroup and look to bounce back next season, where you expect them to be among the favourites in the betting.
Farke: Relegation not unexpected
Daniel Farke says it was “not realistic” to expect Norwich to survive in the Premier League this season after their relegation was sealed by West Ham on Saturday.
Norwich boss Farke said: “Yes it is of course a disappointing day with the loss and the harsh loss, a 0-4, but today is also the day where relegation is finally confirmed and it is of course a big disappointment without any doubt.
“It is not like it is unexpected or not that we were not prepared for it but once it is really theoretically confirmed it feels even more disappointing and for that it’s a tough day today.
“We are always self-critical so the first step that you have to take is always to ask yourself what you could have done better. It is not the unexpected outcome.
“When I look at our team sheet today it is more or less the same Championship side from last season, just without some key players because they are injured.
“To be able to be successful in this level it is not realistic you have to say.
“I feel really sorry, especially for our supporters and everyone connected with this amazing club, that we were not able to work another miracle. I’m in the responsible role so I am disappointed I was not able to work another miracle.”
