Reports: Jose Mourinho open to replacing Unai Emery as Arsenal's next manager
Former Chelsea and Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is open to becoming the next manager of Arsenal, according to reports.
ESPN FC say that Mourinho would be interested in the position if the Gunners were to replace current manager Unai Emery.
Emery is under fire following a mixed start to the 2019/20 campaign that has seen them win four of their opening ten Premier League matches.
Mourinho, who has previously stated that he thinks 'the best place to work in football is England', has also set his sights on becoming the first boss to win major trophies at three English clubs, according to Wednesday's back pages.
The Portuguese coach is out of work since leaving Old Trafford in December 2018 - with Borussia Dortmund previously touted as a possible destination
Dortmund find themselves at 6/1 to be Mourinho's next managerial position, beaten into favouritism by Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich who are 4/1.
Despite the apparent interest, it has also been reported that Arsenal have no plans to sack Emery in the near future.
Mourinho has been working as a TV pundit since his departure from Manchester - and he has been clear in expressing his desire to return to the dugout but only if the right opportunity presented itself.
"I miss my football, I have the fire," Mourinho told Sky Sports back in July.
"The most difficult thing for me is to say 'no' to the possibilities I had to work.
"I have to be patient and wait for the right one and the right one is one at the dimension of what I am as a manager.
"I have to be patient and that is the most difficult thing because I had the impulse during this period so many times (to say) 'yes, I go'. No, I cannot go. I cannot go. I have to wait exactly for the right one."
Emery has been in the headlines once again following the furious reaction of captain Granit Xhaka to his substitution in Arsenal's 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace.
Xhaka was replaced by Bukayo Saka on the hour mark, a move that was greeted with cheers from the Emirates Stadium crowd and a furious response from the midfielder.
The 27-year-old swore at the Gunners' supporters as he left the pitch before removing his shirt and heading straight down the tunnel.
Former Arsenal forward Charlie Nicholas believes that situation will bring an end to Xhaka's time at the club.
"There is no way back for him. It is over. It was already over," he exclusively told Sporting Life.
"If he apologises, it will be like he has been forced to do it. Everywhere online will have the apology of it, but it will have been forced.
"It was the cupping of the ear, the swearing, the shirt being taken off, the walking down the tunnel - it was the complete package of how it was dealt with.
"It is the fascination of why Arsenal want to turn up and watch the team. Quite a few teams will buy him in January. It was as clear-cut to me on Sunday as it is to me today, there is no way back for him."
