Premier League transfer news: Leicester confirm signing of Monaco winger Rachid Ghezzal

Leicester have replaced Riyad Mahrez by signing his fellow Algerian winger Rachid Ghezzal from Monaco.

Mahrez left to join Manchester City in a £60m deal and Foxes boss Claude Puel has replaced him with a player in a similar mold, in the shape of another skilful Algerian winger.

26-year-old Ghezzal has signed a four-year contract at the King Power to link up again with Puel - who was coach at Lyon when Ghezzal was coming through the youth ranks.

Ghezzal is Leicester's fifth signing of the summer following on from Jonny Evans, James Maddison, Ricardo Pereira and Danny Ward.

“I’m very excited and very happy to be here. I know the coach from Lyon and this is where I want to be," Ghezzal told LCFC TV.

"It’s a good Club and an ambitious one too. Leicester City has many great players and I hope we will have a great season.”

As Leicester prepare to face Manchester United in the opening Premier League game of the season on Friday, Puel says his new signing will add an extra bit of creativity to his squad.

“I’m very pleased to welcome Rachid to Leicester City Football Club. He’s an exciting addition to our group who will bring creativity and competition ahead of an important season for us," said Puel.

"I know his qualities from my time at Lyon, where he was in the academy, and I look forward to seeing him test himself in the Premier League.”
