Leeds return to top

Pablo Hernandez showed his class as Leeds returned to the top of the Sky Bet Championship with a 2-0 victory over struggling Ipswich at Elland Road.

United's progress under Marcelo Bielsa had stalled in recent weeks with just two wins in eight outings without the playmaker in their starting line-up.

But the fit-again Spaniard returned with a bang, laying on goals for Kemar Roofe and Liam Cooper to ensure Leeds got their promotion drive back on track.

The defeat cranked up the pressure on Ipswich boss Paul Hurst.

Town are rooted to the bottom of the table, winning just once this term, and appeared out of their depth in front of a crowd of 29,082 in Yorkshire.

Baggies beaten on home turf in 80/1 Derby victory

Derby striker Jack Marriott continued his impressive run of form in front of goal to help secure a stunning 4-1 Sky Bet Championship victory against fellow high-flyers West Brom at The Hawthorns.

A 4-1 away win could be backed at 80/1 with online bookmaker Sky Bet.

Marriott scored for the third successive match in the 10th minute.

Tom Lawrence then struck five minutes later with Harry Wilson on target in the 51st minute and Scott Malone scoring 19 minutes from time as Derby made it back-to-back wins to move within two points of leaders Leeds.

Albion had been chasing a sixth successive home league win that would have put them top of the table.

But an 83rd-minute consolation strike from Jay Rodriguez was all they had to show for their efforts as they slipped to back-to-back defeats after being beaten at Wigan last time out.

Preston beat the Bees in goal-fest

Preston climbed out of the Championship relegation zone with a 4-3 win over Brentford on an action-packed evening at Deepdale.

Alan Browne gave Preston the lead before Callum Robinson doubled the advantage with a sublime strike in the opening quarter hour, while Tom Barkhuizen netted the third.

Sergi Canos grabbed one back for the Bees with a thunderous strike after 29 minutes before a heavily deflected Ollie Watkins effort reduced the deficit after the break.

Robinson later scored his second to restore Preston's two goal cushion before Bees top scorer Neal Maupay added his side's third just before full-time.

Bristol City leave it late

Famara Diedhiou headed in a stoppage-time winner as Bristol City stepped up their Championship play-offs challenge with a 1-0 victory over Hull at Ashton Gate.

Visiting goalkeeper David Marshall, who had made some fine saves, could only parry a shot from substitute Matty Taylor and Diedhiou nodded home the rebound from 10 yards to secure all three points.

It was rough justice for a Hull side who had contributed much to an open game. But Bristol created more chances and just about deserved the points.

Lewis Grabban at the double

Lewis Grabban scored twice and missed a penalty in the second half as Nottingham Forest gained a first away win at Bolton for 28 years.

Joe Lolley put Aitor Karanka's side on the road to an impressive 3-0 Championship success before Grabban took over in the second half.

His first spot kick was saved by Bolton keeper Ben Alnwick but he then doubled Forest's advantage before wrapping up three points with his second penalty.

In contrast, Bolton produced only a single shot on target in the entire 90 minutes as they failed to win for a fifth successive game.
